In Valheim, players come across a variety of edible flora and fauna that they can cook, brew, and roast in order to fill their stamina and HP pools. While many players are familiar with red and yellow mushrooms in Valheim, the blue mushroom is quite the mystery to most.
Regardless of color, mushrooms in Valheim can be eaten raw or cooked into soups and fermented into potions. Red mushrooms are needed for Carrot Soup and Serpent Stew while yellow mushrooms can be used to make both levels of Stamina Meads. But blue mushrooms can’t be used for potions, soups, or stews. So what are blue mushrooms for?
Like the other mushroom types, blue mushrooms can be eaten raw. All three mushrooms have the same basic stats when eaten:
- HP gain: 15-20
- Stamina gain: 20
- Duration: 600s
- Restores 1hp / tick
But currently, there are no recipes that call for the Blue Mushroom. In fact, blue mushrooms can only be summoned with Valheim console commands; they don’t grow anywhere in the world. They exist inside of this Viking-inspired game code, however, so they must have a use.
The Blue Mushroom will most likely grow in one of the three unfinished biomes that currently exist in Valheim. There’s the Deep North biome, the Ashlands, and the Mistlands. Most likely, the fiery, ash-filled, and scorching landscape of the Ashlands won’t grow too many plants. However, there is a good chance that the Blue Mushroom will be associated with one of the other two biomes.
They could be part of an ice-based potion or food that is more powerful than the current frost resistance potion in Valheim and found growing in the barren, icy world of the Deep North. Or they may be a special mushroom that only grows in the perpetual gloom of the Mistlands, hidden between the sticky strings of spider webbing. Perhaps they will be the basis of a more potent poison resistance potion for taking on the spiders that will most likely spawn in those webs in the Mistlands.
Either way, the Blue Mushroom is basically useless in the current iteration of Valheim. There isn’t really a reason to spawn them in except to see what they look like and eat some for the variety. Hopefully, the coming roadmap will give players some hints of the changes to come, and perhaps uses for this mysterious fungi.
Valheim is currently in Early Access for PC.
