It’s almost that time of year again, as Animal Crossing: New Horizons prepares for its second-annual Bunny Day celebration. To prepare for the Easter-esque festivities, Nintendo has released a new patch for the game that updates Bunny Day, fixes several issues, and gives players a special item to celebrate their first anniversary on their islands.
Bunny Day last year ran from April 1 to April 12 and was the first event Animal Crossing: New Horizons players were able to take part in following the games release one year ago today. The event was met with fairly positive reception at first, as it gave players new recipes and items to collect, but the strange bunny Zipper and the constant collecting of eggs wore thin rather quickly.
Whether players are ready or not, Bunny Day is returning on April 4, and the patch that released this week will update the game in preparation for it. The notes for Update 1.9.0 vaguely only say “The Bunny Day seasonal event has been updated,” so whether anything might be changed about Bunny Day this year remains to be seen. Hopefully this year the event won’t get in the way of so many of players enjoying the rest of the game. This update will also give players an item to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a special cake from Tom Nook.
The update provides several fixes too, including a fix for a bug where players could end up stuck in a transformation outfit when changing outfits with a wand and an exploit that let players dig “where they normally shouldn’t be able to.” The patch notes also reference the incoming collaboration with Hello Kitty’s parent company, Sanrio. The collaboration will be through amiibo cards and will go on sale Friday, March 26. The cards unlock villagers and furniture themed after six different Sanrio characters, including Hello Kitty.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons set a record this week as Nintendo of Europe’s best-selling game in a single year with 7 million units. The game came out one year ago at almost the exact same time as when millions of people around the world were forced to quarantine themselves in their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The perfect timing turned one of Nintendo’s more moderately successful titles into one of its best-sellers and a cultural touchstone for many during the early months of the pandemic.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
