One of the most iconic members of the Anime series Naruto and subsequent continuation Naruto Shippuden is the bushy-browed Taijutsu user from Konoha. Inspired by Bruce Lee, the jumpsuit-clad ninja has preserved throughout the series and won over many fans as a favorite character and inspiration. His actions are considered motivational due to his lack of charka, the fuel source needed to perform powerful abilities like Ninjutsu and Genjutsu that carry the show’s battle scenes. Instead, relying on physical strength and hand-to-hand combat known as Taijutsu in close combat during fights.
Rock Lee originates from Konoha’s Team Guy, however, he often lends a hand to other ninjas during the show and frequently arrives to aid the causes of his friends under many different circumstances.
7 Kazekage Rescue Team
At the beginning of Naruto Shippuden, Gaara the current Kazekage of the Sand Village is kidnapped by the rogue ninja group the Akatsuki. In an attempt to extract the powerful tailed beast inside him, a team of two rogue ninjas named Deidara and Sasori kidnap Gaara under the cover of nightfall and return to their hidden base in the land of Rivers. The original dispatch team was Team 7 under Kakashi Hatake, which was then later given reinforcement by Team Guy to fight against the Akatsuki members.
Once they arrived Gaara was already dead, although later revived by a village elder named Chiyo who traded her own life for his. Rock Lee and the rest of the Konoha ninja escorted Gaara back to his village before heading home.
6 Third Division of Allied Shinobi Forces
During the Fourth Great Ninja War, shinobi from all villages were sectioned into massive groups that were based on the strengths and abilities of those individual characters. Rock Lee was placed in the Third Division, grouped with both his previous sensei Might Guy, as well as other Konoha ninjas, like Sakura Haruno and Kakashi Hatake. The Third Division was selected for their physical strength and ability to fight both close-range and mid-range battles throughout the war and therefore was a perfect space to place Rock Lee and his abilities.
5 Orochimaru Search Team
The Orochimaru Search Team was intended to raid one of Orochimaru’s most recent hidden bases. This team was originally comprised of Kakashi Hatake and Team 8 but was later supplemented with the remaining members of Team 7 and any available genin from Konoha at the time. The teams were split up into smaller squadrons to not only investigate Orochimaru but also fight off Team Guren and help seal the Three Tailed Beast.
Rock Lee was on subgroup 2 with Yamato, Tenten, Kiba Inuzuka, and Akamaru. Their main goal was to not only handle the leftover members of Team Guren that slipped through the first subgroup but to also ensure the success of the sealing team that was attempting to confine the Three-Tails.
4 Team Guy
Team 3, or more commonly referred to as Team Guy in the Naruto Series, is a team of close-range fighters who are grouped under the supervision of Might Guy. The group focuses their abilities mainly on physical attacks and relies on their strength rather than intricate Jutsu or inherited ability. Rock Lee’s team was a year behind other graduates of the ninja academy, as Guy believed his students required another year before entering the Chunin Exams.
3 Sasuke Recovery Team
While not originally placed on the team for Sasuke’s initial recovery attempt made in earnest by the Leaf Village, Rock Lee undoubtedly had one of his most iconic fights in Naruto during this arc. When Sasuke leaves to join Orochimaru in exchange for training and power, the Leaf Village sends out a team under the command of Shikamaru Nara to secure his safe return.
Intercepting the team is the Sound Four, who prove to be too troublesome for the genin to handle alone. Rock Lee confronts Kimimaro, a bone-style user from the Sound Village. After having an iconic fight that included the consumption of alcohol on Lee’s part, Gaara enters the battle to close off the fight.
2 Star Guard Team
A genin-based team is instructed with guarding a mysterious star held sacred by a village in Hoshigakure. This star is proven to be a strange asteroid that grants abilities to those who commit to ‘star-training’ at the cost of their own wellbeing and health. The team accomplishing this goal was Team Guy except for Might Guy himself, who was replaced by Naruto.
The team was headed up by Neji and clashed against a woman named Natsuhi who wished to steal the star to protect her people from the dangers of it. After it was successfully embedded into a boy of the village named Akahosi, Naruto was finally able to destroy the meteorite with a Rasengan.
1 The Locus of Konoha
In a more odd twist of fate, an Ostrich named Condor has a ninja team of animals that go up against genin from Konoha. Rock Lee fights against a Kangaroo that leaves significant damage on him throughout the fight. However, once the battle turns in Lee’s favor, the two kangaroos run away once defeated by the Leaf Village ninja. Both of the Kangaroos were proficient in boxing, which is what prevented Rock Lee from landing significant blows on his opponents for much of the match.
