Spider-Man Fan Recreating PS4 Game’s New York City in Disney Infinity

Sandbox video games provide great opportunity for players to use their imaginations and build unique worlds with the tools they’ve been given. While many sandbox titles have main storylines to play through, some gamers decide to pull inspiration from outside works to create their masterpieces. In the sandbox survival game Valheim, creative gamers have built everything from a US Navy Warship to Sauron’s Tower from Lord of the Rings. A much older sandbox game series, Disney Infinity, also provides tools to build unique creations, and one Spider-Man fan has used them to recreate New York City.

Disney Infinity was first released in 2013 and allows fans of the Disney universe to play as their favorite characters in a sandbox setting. The game series uses the toys-to-life model, which means players have to buy figurines for the games in order to play as a certain character. In its prime, Disney Infinity passed Skylanders to become the most popular toys-to-life game. But even so, Disney discontinued its support for the games. Still, that doesn’t stop players from building things in them, and Reddit user masterofbeingcapture has built a cool New York City based off the design in Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4.

There is obviously a difference in graphics quality between Disney Infinity and Marvel’s Spider Man, but it’s difficult for most games to match the atmospheric intensity of Marvel’s Spider-Man’s New York City. Masterofbeingcapture does an admirable job here though. Every good New York City needs an abundance of skyscrapers for the web-slinger to use to jettison himself around the map, and masterofbeingcapture manages to place these skyscrapers just right along the streets to let Spider-Man move around effortlessly.

It’s also nice to see the verticality of New York City portrayed here. Map verticality can add some realism to the atmosphere of game settings, and although it seems difficult to pull off in Disney Infinity, masterofbeingcapture shows off this verticality when Spider-Man swings up into the sky. It’s unfortunate that masterofbeingcapture does not have access to the excellent photo mode in Marvel’s Spider-Man to take pictures of all the action, but at least this video serves as a reminder of all the fun.

Masterofbeingcapture plans to add to this recreation of New York City and will likely build the Empire State Building as the city’s next major project. Other building projects could be the Oscorp Building or the Avengers tower, both of which can be seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. This build of New York City just proves that some games can still provide some great entertainment long after they have stopped receiving new content.

Disney Infinity games are available across a variety of platforms an can be purchased in Gold Editions on Steam.
