Anticipation for STALKER 2, sequel to the 2007 cult hit survival game, is understandably high. It should be no surprise then that Xbox announcing STALKER 2‘s inclusion in its upcoming ID@Xbox showcase led to a lot of excitement. It seems, however, that the announcement was somewhat misrepresented. STALKER 2‘s developers are now working to scale back fan expectations for the event, saying that while it will be involved there won’t be any significant reveals.
In a message posted to Twitter, STALKER 2‘s devs state that the original plan for ID@Xbox this year was to showcase a behind-the-scenes video with “certain in-game materials.” In other words, it’s not supposed to be a gameplay debut or an extended trailer for STALKER 2. It’s also too late to add anything more substantial to the presentation, since the livestream goes up next week on March 26.
That doesn’t mean more STALKER 2 information isn’t coming soon, however. While there won’t be any substantial reveals at the ID@Xbox event, there are plans to share more information later in 2021. No specific details are shared, but fans should expect them to be “bigger and louder.”
To make up for the confusion, three new screenshots from STALKER 2 have been shared on Twitter. All three fit the game’s gloomy, post-apocalyptic atmosphere, showing bleak abandoned town areas, empty buildings, or unsettling rural areas. The three images are not screenshots from STALKER 2, it should be made clear. Rather, they’re pieces of concept art that hopefully capture what the final game is going for. Further STALKER 2 details will have to wait until later this year.
STALKER 2 is tentatively planned to launch in 2021 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
