Far Cry 6 May Set the Tone for a New Decade of FC Games

The Far Cry games have always been about large open sandboxes, featuring a bunch of different opportunities for players to cause chaos in the most creative ways possible. While the series may have evolved considerably over the years, a lot of things about Far Cry games seem to have been following a formula for a while now. This has proven to be off-putting to a lot of fans who are now suffering from franchise fatigue at this point.

It seems there is some light on the other side of the tunnel, as Far Cry 6 looms over the horizon. Although much isn’t known about what it might entail, a lot of zealous fans have already dug up information on the upcoming entry, and are busy fantasizing about all the new and unexpected things Far Cry 6 might have in store. It’s expected that Far Cry 6 would be a departure from the series’ now stagnant formula, and it could even set the tone for a new generation of Far Cry games.

Fans are speculating that Far Cry 6 may be a radical departure from the series roots, and could venture deep into uncharted territory. This turns the overlying narrative theme from survival to resistance, which can drive huge implications both in terms of the gameplay and the world at large.

This alone might mean a bunch of different things with respect to narrative, as associated characters and the relationships they share with each other as well as the protagonist may differ a lot from previous entries. Instead of being complete strangers, characters could have rich and multi-faceted backstories that could define their motivations and ambitions. This could provide a lot of much-appreciated nuance to the designs, as well as shake up a bunch of different facets of gameplay.

Many fans believe that liberating distinct areas as seen in Far Cry 5 wouldn’t make much sense in a city like Yara, where it seems that there is only one true antagonist. This might entail going back to the similar format of the original Far Cry games, which featured linear questlines and different side quest activities.

Another much-requested feature comes in the form of making choices matter in Far Cry 6, which also seems to be in the books for this kind of narrative setup. As a rebel, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a lot of decisions shift the tides of the revolution to either side and could carry huge repercussions going forward. It might not be as fleshed out as something like The Witcher 3, but it certainly could use a lot of variety and opportunities of making such choices.

In the same spirit of things, fan speculation suggests that the departure from the survival-esque roots could make crafting systems lighter or even get rid of them outright. A native rebel like Dani would surely know his streets, and thus shouldn’t be on the lookout for resources to craft items and upgrade them as well.

The new assortment of such gameplay mechanics could usher in a new era of Far Cry games, ones that are more focused on building a strong narrative by way of well-realized characters and building complex relationships with them. Choices, both during key moments in the narrative as well as in the open world, would carry some weight in the future. Hopefully, Far Cry 6 shakes up the formula for good and Far Cry gets to evolve into something fresh and exciting.
