Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the most well-received PlayStation 4 exclusives of 2020. It’s only fitting that Square Enix is now bringing it to Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. Given that Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the most graphically impressive releases for the PS4, it only makes sense that it would deliver an enhanced experience on PS5 as well. Square Enix has now released an extended in-depth look at just what the PS5 enhanced features of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade are.
Square Enix has previously shared some information about its plans for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the PS5, alongside the game’s announcement. However, Square Enix must have wanted to give Final Fantasy fans a closer look at what they’re getting. In a new, 6-minute trailer, Square Enix shows off side-by-side footage comparing the game on both PS4 and PS5. It also showcases some of the more specific optimizations and added features in the second half of the trailer.
As in the first trailer focusing on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade‘s enhanced features for PS5, the trailer starts with side-by-side footage. The PS5 and PS4 footage focuses on several key areas. It starts with showcasing enhanced textures, particularly for objects very close to the camera like Cloud’s sword and backgrounds in the far distance, a major topic of criticism for the PS4 version. From there, the trailer shows improved fog effects and lighting.
The second half of the trailer focuses on new features. First shown is Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s graphics options. There’s a mode prioritizing 60 FPS and a mode prioritizing a 4K resolution display. Second is the new Normal (Classic) difficult mode, which lets players focus on issuing commands versus basic attacks and defense. The game’s improved loading times are mentioned third, with an example of loading from a save near-instantly shown. Lastly, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade‘s impressive new photo mode is shown.
One change that wasn’t called out in the trailer appears to be improved combat speed. Cloud‘s attacks are shown to combo much better, with pauses between moves disappearing. This can be seen surprisingly clearly in the earliest footage in the trailer. Square Enix will hopefully share more information about gameplay changes in time.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade trailer closes out with a look at the upcoming game’s new DLC. That DLC being the all-new Episode Yuffie, featuring entirely new protagonists including the popular Final Fantasy 7 ninja Yuffie. There’s just a bit of footage from an in-game cinematic and a boss fight, but something is better than nothing.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade releases June 10 on PS5.
