Mr. Beast’s Finger on the App 2 Challenge Had Some Major Problems

YouTuber Mr. Beast has earned a reputation for giving away large sums of money, both to random people and those that partake in his challenges. Recently, Mr. Beast gave his fans another shot at winning a massive prize of $100,000 through the Finger on the App 2 challenge, which sees players compete to be the last with their finger on their phone’s screen. However, it didn’t go off without a hitch.

Some of those that loaded up the app seem to have had problems with connectivity, with users reporting bugs that caused them to be booted from the competition or otherwise lose lives. Over on Twitter, fans vented about the competition’s issues, many complaining that they’d lost due to factors outside of their control.

The most likely cause of the problem is the sheer number of players that were attempting the challenge. Judging by one of Mr. Beast’s early tweets, by which time a “few hundred thousand” contestants had already been eliminated, 1.2 million players were competing during the challenge. More likely than not, Mr. Beast’s team simply hadn’t anticipated that volume of traffic, so there might have been an unprecedented strain on the game’s servers.

To Mr. Beast’s credit, the YouTuber has apologized for the issues and is now offering refunds to those that bought extra lives. In a response to a fan, Mr. Beast noted that some users had connection issues and others had accidentally touched the screen with a second finger, which appears to have caused some of the problems. He did assure the fan that he wanted the competition to go smoothly, however.

It’s a good response to the problems, and one that certainly seems genuine. Mr. Beast has given away millions of dollars in prize money at this point, and while $100,000 is certainly a massive sum, it definitely isn’t the highest price tag attached to one of his competitions. The YouTuber has expressed in past videos that he genuinely likes giving money away, so it’s unfortunate that this one went poorly.

On the bright side, this isn’t the first Finger on the App challenge, and it likely won’t be the last. Once the errors are fixed, it’s possible that another competition will be announced, giving those that were dropped early another chance at the grand prize. Keeping a finger on an app for an extended period of time sounds simple on the surface, so it’s clear that most participants thought they had a chance at winning. A prior Finger on the App lasted 70 hours, though, so it takes dedication to win.
