The 2D Survival Crafter Terraria has made it past an impressive milestone in sales as it approaches the tenth anniversary of its release. In addition, Terraria has also secured the title of the best game on Steam, going by user reviews.
The milestone of 35 million sales across all platforms was announced by Re-Logic, Terraria’s developer. After nearly a decade on the market, Terraria has accrued 17.2 million sales on PC, 8.5 million sales across consoles, and an impressive 9.3 million sales on mobile devices. Terraria‘s recent rocky path to release on Stadia has been smoothed out, so these numbers may yet continue to climb now that the game has hit Google’s game-streaming service.
On top of financial success, Terraria has also been commended by its fans to such a degree that it now stands atop a list of some of Steam’s most vaunted titles. The Steam250 list recently shows Terraria as surpassing Portal 2 as the most positively reviewed game on Steam, beating out competition from other legendary titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Hades.
Re-Logic’s celebratory post made mention of plans for full content parity across platforms being a current priority, with potential for cross-play between platforms as a potential feature in the future to link Terraria‘s active online community. Alongside Steam Workshop support, allowing PC users to expand their game with mods, it is clear Re-Logic is keen on keeping its smash hit Terraria moving forward with the availability of new content for a while to come.
While official updates for Terraria ceased with the Journey’s End updates, not all platforms have received it yet. The newest release of the game on Stadia does include this content, so rounding out the console patches is all that is left for Re-Logic to do before it achieves content parity; fans of Terraria could see what’s coming next sooner rather than later.
