Enter the Gungeon is a roguelike video game that was released on PC and PS4 in April 2016, Xbox One in April 2017, Nintendo Switch in December 2017, and Google Stadia in December 2020. In the game, the player controls one of four adventurers as they enter the — that’s right — Gungeon, trying to find a time machine to go back and kill their past self. The Gungeon itself is a dungeon that follows the theme of guns and other firearms.
Throughout their descent into the Gungeon, the player will get Items. They are found in chests, dropped by bosses upon death, purchased from shops, or given by NPCs. These items can be either Active, used like abilities that need recharging, or Passive, used like upgrades or equipment.
10 The Battle Standard
“Before the advancement of Gundead society, belligerent bands of Bullet Kin would rally around these banners before their raids upon the upper chambers.”
Battle Standard is a Passive Item with the rank of D-Tier and flavor text: “Set Your Own!” If the player equips the Battle Standard, their companions and charmed enemies will dish out 80 percent more damage. Also, charm effects are extended longer and the chance to find companions goes up.
9 The Holey Grail
“This artifact of Kaliber was lost to time until the coming of the Mine Flayers and their interdimensional kin.”
Holey Grail is a Passive Item with the rank of D-Tier and flavor text: “Withered Vessel.” If the player equips the Holey Grail, they will trigger a Blank effect, refilling half of the ammo in all of their guns. So, the player loses some health in exchange for more supply.
8 The Ser Junkan
“Strange, sentient junk. It appears eager to join you on your quest.”
Ser Junkan is a Passive Item with the rank of C-Tier and flavor text: “Next time…who is he?” If the player equips the Ser Junkan, Ser Junkan himself will follow the player around and help them out. He also picks Junk, which levels him up. While he is puny at Level 0, at Level 6 he will sacrifice himself to immediately revive the player if they die. If he finds a Gold Junk, he will become Mecha Junkan.
7 The Metronome
Metronome is a Passive Item with the rank of B-Tier and flavor text: “Better And Better.” If the player equips the Metronome, they get a 2 percent damage bonus for each enemy killed (maxed out at 150 percent damage). They will lose the bonus (it resets) after taking damage, changing guns, or dropping their gun.
(This item is actually a reference to the Metronome item in the Pokémon video games, which works similarly!)
6 The Clown Mask
“Masks of this design were used to explore primitive Gungeon-like structures filled with money, now referred to as ‘Mungeons.’ Anonymity was important to Mungeoneers of this time. The friendly clown design is thought to have helped Mungeoneers make peace with the native inhabitants.”
Clown Mask is a Passive Item with the rank of B-Tier and flavor text: “Anonymity Aid.” If the player equips the Clown Mask, a familiar will be summoned wearing a clown-mask. Wolf will attack enemies and stun them with a taser. Hoxton will guard the player with mini-Blanks. Chains will attack enemies with a shotgun.
5 The Galactic Medal Of Valor
“Medal awarded for bravery in the face of certain doom. But most importantly, you didn’t let down the unit. Good work, Marine.”
Galactic Medal of Valor is a Passive Item with the rank of B-Tier and flavor text: “Courage Increased.” If the player equips the Galactic Medal of Valor, they will deal 30 percent more damage to bosses. On top of that, their reload time is halved as is their shot spread (increasing accuracy).
4 The Chicken Flute
“The sounds from this strange instrument seem to have summoned a chicken.”
Chicken Flute is a Passive Item with the rank of B-Tier and flavor text: “Fowl Play.” If the player equips the Chicken Flute, a chicken is spawned…there’s more…it follows the player, blocking bullets and dealing a little damage to enemies it comes into contact with. Not only that, if the chicken takes enough damage itself then an army of chickens spawns, massacring all enemies in the room.
3 The Full Metal Jacket
“An original Gungeon item. This protective garment, laser-cut whole from a massive Blank, can detect when its bearer is threatened.”
Full Metal Jacket is a Passive Item with the rank of B-Tier and flavor text: “Automated Defenses.” If the player equips the Full Metal Jacket, their Blanks are used when taking damage, preventing it. This even covers damage from Cigarettes.
2 The Mimic Tooth Necklace
“A necklace made from the tooth of a Mimic. Feels lucky!”
Mimic Tooth Necklace is a Passive Item with the rank of A-Tier and flavor text: “Chomp.” If the player equips the Mimic Tooth Necklace, all Chests become Mimics and (all Pedestals become Mimics too). This means free (better) chests for the player.
1 The Clone
“An uncomfortable answer to an uncomfortable truth. This clone can replace a single Gungeoneer upon their death, with almost no lapse in memory.”
Clone is a Passive Item with the rank of S-Tier and flavor text: “The Real Me.” If the player equips the Clone, they will be revived (in the starting room) with all their items and guns (except the Clone itself). It is basically an extra life.
