Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons celebrated its first anniversary this March 2021, and it seems the public cannot get enough of the life simulation game. To mark the occasion, the development team announced a new ACNH anniversary update that features new seasonal items, a celebratory cake, and even more. Now, fans in Japan can also take part in the festivities as Nintendo has recently launched the 2nd volume of Animal Crossing: New Horizons trading cards.
Long-time fans of the franchise are aware that Amiibo cards of the game’s popular villagers have been on sale since the days of older Nintendo portable platforms such as the Wii U and the 3DS. With the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the cards have become so popular that they were sold out everywhere for a time. Other Amiibo cards have even become so expensive, given that they feature some of the more iconic villagers in the game. With this kind of purchasing trend, it is not surprising that Nintendo came up with a trading card line that put the spotlight on some of the game’s beloved villagers.
Coming from big Japanese company Bandai, Nintendo released the second line of Animal Crossing: New Horizons trading cards in Japan. Under the brand, Bandai Candy, purchasing the trading cards comes with a pack of gummy candy, and will cost 110 yen or roughly $1.01 USD. The trading card packs can be purchased in Japanese groceries or supermarkets, making it easy for fans to access the merchandise.
The second volume of the trading cards will feature some of the new villagers introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This includes Cyd, one of the cranky elephant villagers in ACNH, and Megan, the bear villager with a normal personality. Other villagers fans might be interested to collect include Merengue, Stitches, Rosie, and more.
With the first and second line of trading cards already up for sale, fans are hopeful that more of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers will be highlighted in the next volumes. Given that the cards are only for sale in Japanese markets, other fans may have to wait for the company to bring them to other shores in order to purchase them.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
