A PC gaming setup isn’t complete without a proper gaming chair. With the rise of streaming and gaming becoming an increasingly popular hobby, dedicated gaming chairs have become the norm over office chairs. Singapore’s Secretlab has been at the forefront of the gaming chair industry, releasing a plethora of gaming chairs since its inception in 2014. And now its latest product has come about as a collaboration with BAPE in the form of the Secretlab AAPE Collection.
The Secretlab AAPE Collection consists of gaming chairs with camouflage designs, available in blue, green, and red. The chairs are available in Omega and Titan variants, with the AAPE and Secretlab logos on the back. One’s affinity for camo designs or AAPE will likely determine how interested they are in the chairs’ aesthetic, but the most important thing about a gaming chair is how it feels to sit in for long periods of time. After all, it’s not uncommon at all for gaming and streaming sessions to last for hours, and so having a comfortable chair is a big deal.
Gaming chairs are sometimes criticized for not being the most comfortable options when it comes to the seat cushions, and the Secretlab AAPE chair Game Rant tested is unlikely to change that perception. The leather seat is hard and won’t feel great after extended sessions, but it should be noted that there’s a reason for that. The seats are purposefully made this way because firm cushions are better for one’s spine and posture, so while some may feel discomfort after using the chair for a few hours, it will ultimately be better for them in the long run than using something like a recliner with a soft seat.
Anyone that doesn’t mind the firmer seats that gaming chairs have should certainly give Secretlab’s chairs a look, as they’re an industry leader for a reason. Secretlab’s AAPE chairs double as collector’s items of sorts, so they’re a bit of a special case, but they offer the same general quality that one expects from Secretlab chairs. The chairs come with added back and head cushions for extra support (with the back cushion having the Secretlab Omega or Titan branding), plus users can easily recline, adjust the height, and tweak the arm rest positions.
The Secretlab AAPE chairs have all the bells and whistles that one expects from a standard gaming chair, and after a few weeks of use, everything still works perfectly and the chair itself looks great. The leather still looks like it’s right out of the box, and this is despite being used for upwards of eight hours or more per day, in a home with cats. The seat has retained its firmness to the point where it would be impossible to tell that anyone has sat in it at all. The chair can easily be passed off as brand new even though in reality it’s been used for dozens of hours, which is really a testament to its overall quality.
With all these features, some may be worried that setting up the Secretlab AAPE chair would be overly complicated. Gaming chairs in general look kind of strange when compared to regular office chairs, and so some may think that they are more difficult to put together. While there are some gaming chairs out there that are a pain in the neck to assemble, the same can’t be said for the Secretlab AAPE chair, which actually has one of the most painless assembly processes we’ve encountered.
Instead of making users flip back and forth through a thick booklet of instructions, the Secretlab AAPE chair comes with a large sheet that clearly lays out all of the steps in order. Setting up the chair is a breeze and should only take 10 to 20 minutes. After putting the chair together, all users need to do is experiment with the various height settings to find what works best for them and they’re good to go.
The Secretlab AAPE chairs are great gaming chairs that are easy to assemble and are clearly built to last. The only question remains is if the chairs are worth the price of admission. The Omega version of the Secretlab AAPE chairs retail for $489, whereas the Titan version costs $539. The Secretlab Titan chairs are similar to the Omega chairs aesthetically, though the Titan chairs are larger and have additional lumbar support options, so anyone in the market will need to determine which kind of Secretlab chair is best for their situation. Of course, those who aren’t interested in getting one of the limited-edition AAPE-branded chairs can get a different Omega or Titan chair and save a couple hundred bucks.
Anyone getting this specific chair will likely be doing it for the AAPE branding or to get their hands on a limited-time item. However, it should be noted that they are virtually identical to the other Secretlab chairs in terms of functionality, including chairs based on specific franchises. For example, there’s a Cyberpunk 2077 Secretlab chair, not to mention chairs based on the Joker from DC Comics, League of Legends, and more. So anyone in the market for a gaming chair that isn’t concerned with the branding could safely purchase pretty much any kind of Secretlab chair and expect the same quality and reliability as the AAPE-branded one.
SecretLab AAPE Limited-Edition Designer Chair is available now in both Omega and Titan variants. Game Rant was provided a review unit for this coverage.
