‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Promo Teases Baron Zemo’s Return

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered last Friday, with its first episode giving Marvel fans a chance to catch up with the MCU’s events since “the blip.” Unlike WandaVision, which released two episodes right away, the former’s longer runtime means week two is when the rest of the cast will get to join the Disney Plus series.

In early previews and the two official trailers, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier teased a globetrotting buddy cop adventure in which the two protagonists would be facing off against the likes of Baron Helmut Zemo, Marvel B-lister Flag-Smasher, and the huge question mark that is Captain America stand-in John Walker. However, there wasn’t much room for the bad guys, considering the show had to set up what Sam and Bucky’s everyday life and motivations are right now.

The new Falcon and the Winter Soldier promo shared by Marvel Entertainment features excerpts from speeches given by Sam Wilson, Baron Zemo, and gender-swapped Flag-Smasher Karli Morgenthau, suggesting how the latter two could be working together in order to maintain the status quo that befell the world after “the blip.” Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Sharon Carter is finally reintroduced, as the series will now see its two heroes go on a mission together for the first time to unleash some of that classic action-comedy humor they have in store.

Judging from the footage seen in this episode two teaser, it’s Bucky who heads down to Louisiana to recruit Sam for their upcoming mission, where they’ll certainly pay the consequences of underestimating the Flag-Smashers, though there’s no clear indication if they’ll be meeting Baron Zemo too at this point. No real easter eggs to look out for in this early look at the next episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, despite the first episode being filled with Marvel easter eggs and callbacks.

There’s no guarantee that all the shots shown in the promo are from this week’s episode, however, there really isn’t much wiggle room for the plot to unfold given the show’s shorter 6-week run on Disney Plus. One of the key story points in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is likely establishing a more thorough backstory for Baron Zemo and how his plan looks to manipulate the Flag-Smasher Reddit-like group into becoming a worldwide terrorist organization.

Sadly, there’s not too much to see of John Walker’s Captain America, an intriguing character whose comic book origins could mean the new recruit will transform into a disappointed Steve Rogers fan or just a murderous human weapon employed by the US government. Given his snarky grin during his presentation, the writers probably chose the latter option.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is exclusively available on Disney Plus.
