Destiny 2‘s Season of The Chosen is in full swing, with a host of content that fans have really taken to. Not only are fans excited, but staff at Destiny 2 developer Bungie seem to be as well. That people are excited about Destiny 2, a game now into its fourth year, is also seen in the community creations that continue to pop up on a regular basis. And while Destiny has seen its fair share of crossovers, one artist has found a new combination by mixing Pikachu and the Destiny Vanguard.
The amount of fan art making waves online is often a good measure of how well-liked a game is in general. If there are a lot of fans making art of a particular game, there must be something captivating about its world. An impressive colored pencil piece of fan art featuring Destiny‘s Hunter recently made the rounds, so the sci-fi shooter certainly has a passionate fanbase.
The latest in Destiny 2 fan art creations brings Pikachu to the Last City, with the popular Pokemon cosplaying as members of the Vanguard. The set of illustrations by artist Eun, aka LostThingy, features Pika-fied versions of Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Cayde-6. Each of the Vanguard Pikachus features a nod to their Destiny 2 counterpart, Zavala and his love of crochet, Ikora and her scholarly knowledge, and Cayde-6 with a bowl of spicy ramen. They are nice little touches to some very cute pieces of fan art.
As the face of the Pokemon empire, it is not surprising to see Pikachu turn up just about anywhere. This isn’t even the first time that Eun has drawn Pikachu in cosplay, as the artist also combined Pokemon and Warframe not too long ago. The electric mouse has even teamed up with legendary kaiju for an official Mecha Godzilla Pikachu figure. To bring Pikachu into the world of Destiny might not seem like an immediate fit, but Pikachu’s adaptability and near-universal appeal help to make the adorable Pokemon work in almost any crossover.
Fan creativity enriches the community around a game or franchise, and Destiny 2 has some fans that enjoy creating art of the game, as well as a large audience who are receptive. Pokemon is similarly loved by its community, with one fan recently recreating Pokemon Diamond and Pearl’s opening. So combining these two worlds here is a perfect bit of synergy.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
