Hades is an indie game that took the gaming world by storm during the last quarter of 2020. Hades performed so well critically that it won several different Game of the Year awards, even winning SXSW’s GOTY award just a few days ago.
However, Hades is still only seeing a somewhat limited release, with the game only being available on PC and Nintendo Switch. It has also been confirmed that Hades will not be making an appearance at the upcoming ID@Xbox indie showcase event on March 26, despite appearing in promotional materials.
The news comes by way of the marketing leads for ID@Xbox on Twitter. The tweet explicitly states, “No, Hades will not be featured” in the online showcase this Friday. According to the tweet, the promotional art that featured a variety of different games, including Hades, was the result of an error. While this upcoming Xbox event will focus on indie games, Supergiant’s massive success will not be one of the titles that fans can expect to show up.
Many different developers have been cautioning fans to temper their expectations ahead of the event. For example, the STALKER 2 development team released a statement via Twitter telling fans that while the team has plenty of exciting news surrounding the game to show off in 2021, the ID@Xbox showcase is a bit too early to stage a big blowout for STALKER 2. Thankfully fans do know a handful of games that will be featured during the showcase, including Second Extinction, The Ascent, The Wild at Heart, Voidtrain, and Exo One. Still, the fact that multiple parties involved have cautioned fans to lower their expectations does not leave the best impression.
On the other hand, it is good that fans know not to go into the event with lofty expectations, such as new information regarding Halo Infinite. All in all, it seems that while this ID@Xbox showcase will be a good show for fans of indie titles, those looking for bigger AAA titles may want to catch up on the showcase when they have free time as opposed to watching live. Still, more indie titles coming to Xbox is only a good thing for players.
Additionally, fans know that a handful of development studios will make appearances during the show as a part of special promotions. Some of these developers include Drinkbox Studios, Curve Digital, and Devolver Digital. Each of these has some excellent indie titles associated with them, so interested players should keep an eye out for those promotions. While Supergiant’s Hades will not be in attendance when the ID@Xbox showcase debuts on March 26, there should be tons of great indie titles to carry the torch in its stead.
Hades is available now on PC and Switch.
