Players can explore vast new areas of Remnant while making game-altering decisions in the world as they interact with it. Exploration is even bigger after the addition of this DLC which brings Survival mode with it. This means the DLC packs new game modes,  new characters, armor changes, and so much more for players to enjoy in the Swamps Of Corsus.

As the biggest attraction in the Swamps Of Corsus DLC, Survival mode brings a lot to the table. It’s a tough mode that’s not recommended for new players since a lot of knowledge of enemies and battle mechanics are required to succeed. Survival mode plays similarly to rogue-like games where players are restricted in equipment and have to fight as long as they can before they die.

Survival mode is a fantastic addition to Remnant: From The Ashes that accounts for the game’s difficulty and ramps it up a notch. Players can receive Glowing Fragments and other materials through this mode so it’s worth trying a few times for upgrade materials.

In the top left of the HUD, there’re two bars indicating the current state of the Survival mode. The red bar indicates the level of the enemies so players can estimate how much health they have and how much damage they’re likely to do. When the timer reaches 0, the enemies will level up, and surviving will become more difficult.

The blue bar shows the player’s current level. Each boss and standard enemy increases a player’s level just like in campaign mode, and there’s an obvious indication of such in the HUD. Managing time while exploring to keep the player level synchronized with the enemy level is a fun mechanic that adds another layer to gameplay that isn’t in other modes.

Survival mode is daunting and difficult, especially for beginner players. There’re some tricks that help make it all a bit more digestible though. To start, break every destructible item in any given area because they tend to drop a lot of scrap, but also have a chance to drop Mysterious Tomes which can be used to level up skills.

Secondly, alternative kills in Survival Mode matter even more than they do in the campaign. When bosses are killed in Survival, they drop whatever weapon or mod players would be able to craft from them in the campaign. This means understanding the possibilities of what they can drop go even further in Survival since all the gear is randomized and it’s harder to make equipment work together.

The shop pillars in Survival mode are extremely important to take advantage of because they provide players with a means of progression and sustaining themselves. The shop pillars offer consumables, weapons, and mods to improve stats and increase chances of success. Each shop’s inventory resets every time the player returns to the hub world, but the items also get more expensive when they’re bought so players have to be strategic in their shop use.

Because they restock every run, it’s a good idea to check out every shop when players return to the hub world since rare and good items might appear now and then. Players can also sell off unused consumables for extra scrap in case they need to buy something expensive.

After completing a run in Survival mode, players can spend their Glowing Fragments by talking to a new character at Ward 13. The new shop allows players to buy skins for every armor set in the game, changing their appearance. Glowing Fragments are also available in the campaign mode when played on the higher difficulties.

Skins for armor put a fresh and stylistic spin on the armor that provided good bonuses but looked dull. With this addition, players can wear what they want, while having the stats they need to progress in co-op runs depending on their builds. No two players should look exactly the same now and that’s a refreshing change.

In addition to the new Survival mode, Adventure mode gets some updates as well. In Adventure mode, players can now visit the Corsus biomes that add new areas to the swamps. This expansion of Corsus now works like the larger biomes of Earth, Rhom, and Yaesha. There’re also new secrets to discover according to the developers.

Corsus has also received some tweaks in the Campaign, adding new content like side quests and characters. This change did not change the length of Corsus’ campaign role but made it so players who wanted to explore get to do and see more.

The last big change was the addition of Apocalypse difficulty and the changes for Adventure difficulty. Apocalypse grants players with high level rewards but is insanely difficult to play, outshining Nightmare difficulty in every way. Adventure mode becomes more useful for players to gain more loot in Nightmare and Apocalypse difficulty.
