Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Ostara Festival Explained | Game Rant

Any players that have returned to Ravensthorpe recently will have no doubt noticed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is underway with its next seasonal festival. Like the Yule Season before it, Ostara Season comes with a festival to celebrate the Spring Equinox. Both of these holidays were historically celebrated by the Viking people, and in some cases, they played large roles in the creation of similar Christian holidays such as Christmas and Easter. Within the context of the game, the Ostara Festival serves as a way for players to take a break from conquering England and unwind a bit, earning limited time rewards along the way. This event is ongoing and scheduled to end on April 8th.

Those players that were active on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla back in December of 2020 will likely know what’s going on with the Ostara Festival, as it is very similar to how they will remember the Yule Festival. Players can participate in activities and competitions in order to earn tokens that can be redeemed for event rewards. There are also several side quests that players can tackle for extra tokens, making getting all of the rewards not require too much time investment. Still, there are some key differences between the Ostara Festival and the Yule Festival, and new players may want a rundown of how everything works as well.

The first thing that players can do to earn Ostara Tokens is to challenge Braun to a drinking contest. This works identically to the other drinking contests in the game and will reward the player with 10 Ostara Tokens should they emerge victorious. Due to the time it takes to complete this and the relatively low reward, it usually isn’t worth doing more than once unless the player is just 10 tokens away from an item they want to buy. Braun can be found in the main festival area standing next to a keg. This challenge no longer causes Eivor to spawn in drunk upon reloading.

The Twirling Targets challenge is another one returning from the Yule Festival, but it received a bit of a rules change. Players must use the provided Light Bow to shoot as many targets as they can within the time limit. The smaller the target, the more it rewards. Players should aim for the small red targets first, the medium yellow targets next, and the large green targets last. Finally, if players manage to shoot all the targets in a set before they flip back over, they’ll get bonus points. Score enough points and the player will earn an impressive 40 Yule Tokens. This challenge no longer reduces the size of Eivor’s quiver.

The final repeatable challenge players can do to get Ostara Tokens is the Ostara Brawl. This challenge pits players against ten enemies back-to-back, with limited healing available between each fight. Naturally, weapons aren’t allowed, so players will need to rely only on their fists (although diamond armor runes like the one that damages foes on a parry still apply). With each round the player wins, they can choose to leave with their earnings or risk losing them all and continue on. Those that manage to beat all 10 rounds will get 140 Ostara Tokens.

By talking to Mayda, players can begin The May Queen, one of four event side quests. Completing the quest is easy enough, though it does require a fair bit of travel and a mini boss fight along the way. For the sake of leaving the surprise at the end of the mission intact, no more will be said on it, but players should know that clearing this mission will reward them with 140 Ostara Tokens. This cannot be repeated.

The next side quest that players will want to complete is called Spiritual Defense. This one’s a bit more involved, and requires players to find Alvis to start it. The entire quest must be done at night time, so players should be sure to use meditate to fastforward time if needed. The first step of this quest requires players to light fires all around the town, and then returning to Ake will see spirit animals attack the player. These are actually pretty tough, so players should be careful and stock up on rations before starting it. Like the May Queen side quest, this rewards 140 Ostara Tokens.

One of the new features added in the Ostara Festival is a quest specifically based on decorating the settlement. In the Yule Festival, players could purchase Yule decorations but there was no incentive to actually use them, now that has changed. To start this quest, players just need to talk to Norvid at the festival shop. After speaking with him, change five decorations around town to Ostara decorations to receive 40 Ostara Tokens. Unfortunately, this quest is currently incompletable thanks to a bug that caused Ubisoft to remove settlement customization from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Finally, players can get 140 more Ostara Tokens by completing the egg hunt. Scattered about Ravensthorpe are 15 baskets of eggs, and players will need to find every one of them in order to claim the reward. Thankfully, they are always in the same spot, so impatient players can simply look up their locations. Alternatively, six of the eggs have clues hidden behind a riddle that players can solve to gain an edge, and all of them can be found by using Odin’s Sight.

Norvid returns to the Ostara Festival with a new Festival Shop stocked with appropriate items. Like before, players can buy themed settlement cosmetics and tattoos, but this time around there are no weapons or armor. Instead, players can purchase the Colorful Raven schematic for Synin at a cost of 240 Ostara Tokens. All in all, players will need to collect 1000 Ostara Tokens in order to buy everything in the shop. After doing all of the side quests, that means that players will need to use the repeatable activities to farm for a little over 500 Ostara Tokens.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
