The Hawkmoon is a strong Handcannon in Destiny 2 that only gets better with its Catalyst. On its own this weapon can go toe-to-toe with just about any other Handcannon in PVP or PVE. Its not the best, but it is far from being the worst.
Anyone considering using this weapon for any length of time should seriously consider going through the effort of unlocking the Catalyst. To help players decide whether or not its worth it, here’s a guide describing what the Hawkmoon Catalyst does and where you can find it.
The Hakwmoon Catalyst gives the weapon the Hunter’s Trance perk. Hunter’s Trance grants four different benefits:
- Increased Magazine Size
- Increased Handling
- Faster Reload Speed
- Increased Weapon Range
The last three are impacted in their effectiveness by how many times the player has stacked Paracausal Charge. For players wanting the greatest impact its best to stack it the maximum seven times for best results.
Unfortunately ,the quest to get this Catalyst is the infamous Harbinger mission which is part of the greater Birds of Prey questline. Essentially players need to obtain the Hawkmoon, then start the Birds of Prey quest in order to be able to start and complete Harbinger.
After accepting the Birds of Prey quest from the Crow in Tangled Shore, players will need to kickstart Harbinger. To do that, players need to go to the EDZ in Trostland. There’s a building near the church with a Paracausal Bird on the wall.
Jump up the wall and inside the building. Shoot a hole in the wall near the fireplace and follow prompts to begin the mission.
Now players need to collect the Feathers of Light. These are obtained by finding them in the environments, defeating the three Emissaries, and taking down the final boss.
Getting to these Feathers is a bit of trick. The map is very much a maze and there are a lot of powerful enemies that can easily take out even the strongest players. The Emissaries are tough and the final boss is an absolute monster. To make matters worse, the last boss will be defended by waves of enemies.
Once the boss falls, however, the player will be granted two random Hawkmoons and the Catalyst.
Having a strong squad of skilled and well geared players is the best way to complete the Harbinger quest. It can be done solo, but the player will need a lot of talent and a bit of practice to do it consistently. Having lots of ammo is strongly recommended given how many enemies and bosses need to be taken down.
It’s also important to have weapons that deal a variety of damage types. There are multiple enemies with different shields and that includes the bosses themselves. Having a sword for both the fights and traversing the initial environment is also strongly recommended.
A video walkthrough will help with the platforming section of the quest. Afterwards a team of well equipped players at roughly 1280 power is going to be the player’s best bet at victory. Expect to need a few attempts before successfully beating this, unless fighting with experienced players. This mission is infamous among the fanbase for a reason.
