GTA 5: How to Stealth Kill | Game Rant

In Grand Theft Auto 5, players are often keen to tackle situations head on. That said, this isn’t always an option if the player is vastly outnumbered, and even when it is an option, there are some situations that call for a stealthier approach. In these times, using the game’s stealth takedown mechanic can make things simultaneously easier and more enjoyable while acting as a nice change of pace from the typcial, high-octane gunplay. Despite being a useful technique, many players don’t remember how to perform this maneuver, opting instead for silence weapons when it comes to stealth.

Life in Grand Theft Auto 5 is all about scale. Players lead a life of crime in order to support a life of luxury. Because of this, the most grandiose solution is often the first one to come to mind, but every now and then it helps to fall back on a little bit of stealth. What’s more, players can even use this stealth kill technique in GTA Online against other unsuspecting players.

In order to initiate a stealth takedown, players need to satisfy three conditions. First, they must be in stealth mode, usually accomplished by pressing the left stick in or pressing CTRL to crouch. From here, players will need to find a target and sneak up behind them. In the case of hostile NPCs or other players that value their lives, it is best to do so undetected. Finally, equip any melee weapon and press the attack button (circle on PlayStation, “B” on Xbox). This should initiate the stealth takedown and remove the threat.

As previously noted, players can do this with any melee weapon. This means that a stealth takedown will work whether players have their fists equipped or something more deadly such as a baseball bat. Players should be sure to use this to their advantage when facing off against a great number of foes or another player in online mode. Grand Theft Auto may not be famous for its stealth gameplay, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Players just have to do a bit of searching to find it.

Funny enough, Grand Theft Auto 5‘s story actually teaches players how to do stealth takedowns, but for many it has been a long time since they’ve played through the story or bothered to read any of the hints. Most spend their time on the ever expanding Grand Theft Auto Online now, building a personal fortune for themselves no matter the cost.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
