Of all the thrilling activities available in Red Dead Redemption 2, few require as much patience and effort as hunting for legendary animals. Now, a player has gone above and beyond and finished of a legendary moose in a very strange way. In an effort to get a stunning screenshot, Reddit user DiscoMagicParty accidentally pushed the moose too far. This is only the latest in a seemingly never-ending string of uncovered secrets in Red Dead Redemption 2.
As with Arthur’s drunken singing in Red Dead Redemption 2, fans are still making discoveries about the game all the time. Considering the great lengths that Rockstar Games went to in making the game seem realistic, animals being affected by exhaustion should come as no surprise.
Would-be hunters can track legendary animals throughout the map. Unlike their normal counterparts, legendary animals only appear during certain times of day and can only be found in special locations. The rare animals generally have a distinct appearance such as the white-furred legendary moose or the massive legendary bull alligator. After killing the animals, players can turn them in for special rewards and cash. Hunting the legendary Panther, for instance, is one of the requirements for the Legend of the East outfit in Red Dead Redemption 2.
According to the Redditor, after pursuing the legendary white moose for a long period of time, it simply collapsed and died, seemingly from exhaustion. Unfortunately, commenters weren’t convinced that the moose’s exhaustion was an intended feature in the game, with many suggesting that the moose likely died due to a bug associated with falling or collision damage. A similar phenomenon can be experienced in Grand Theft Auto V when players trip and take damage over seemingly infinitesimal surfaces. This wouldn’t be the first example of odd glitches in Red Dead Redemption 2, but the game is far more often characterized by its attention to detail. This led to others believing that the feature was intended to be a reflection of real-life persistence hunting.
Whether the exhaustion mechanic is intended or not is largely irrelevant. Skeptical fans may just have to chalk this one up as an accidental success for Rockstar Games. For those wishing to replicate DiscoMagicParty’s efforts and capture the perfect screenshot, or for players looking to hunt the legendary animals for rewards, a Red Dead Redemption 2 location guide is indispensable to their efforts. Whether the final screenshot was what this Redditor was after or not, the moose certainly died of exhaustion in a picturesque location, bathing in the setting sun.
