Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town – How to Get Lumber

Lumber is a resource required for crafting many items and buildings in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. Here’s how players can acquire the many different types of Lumber in the game.

XSEED and Marvelous innovated the newest Story of Seasons title by adding much more crafting than seen in past installments. Players start from the ground up on an abandoned farm by reclaiming the wilderness. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done, like cutting down the grass and trees, removing the boulders, and scooping the puddles each time it rains, but all of this also helps players gather materials required for crafting. Crafting plays a large role in the game’s story as Olive Town will request certain resources for ongoing projects. Lumber is the most commonly used material in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.

All materials in Pioneers of Olive Town can be acquired somewhere on the farmland. Rock Salt found on the beaches in the second area can be turned into Salt for cooking dishes, animals can provide products like Milk and Eggs which can be turned into Butter and Mayonnaise, respectively, and Ores can be mined in the multiple mines within the farmland. And Logs, of course, come from trees, which can be cut down using an Axe in Story of Seasons

After cutting down some trees, to make Lumber, players will first need a Maker. Specifically, they’ll need to craft a Lumber Maker, which can be crafted in the Crafting tab of the Notebook. Doing so first requires 20 Logs. After the Lumber Maker has been created and placed on the ground, interact with it and select the Logs to be turned into Lumber. Each piece of Lumber requires 3 Logs.

However, there are many different types of Logs in the game. The player’s farm in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town has multiple sections that can be unlocked as the game progresses and the farmer gathers the necessary materials. Each section has different resources, such as Oregano in the first area and Peppercorns in the second. The same goes for trees and Logs.

Other than regular Logs, there are several types including Solid Logs, Supple Logs, and Durable Logs, and each turn into the same type of Lumber, such as Durable Lumber. They can all be crafted using Lumber Makers, but different Log types have different crafting times. Similar to Stardew Valley, cutting down higher-level trees also requires higher-level Axes, like the Golden Axe.

Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
