Back 4 Blood Delayed Out of Summer 2021 | Game Rant

It is said that no news is good news, and in this case that definitely rings true. The official Twitter account for Turtle Rock’s upcoming Back 4 Blood has just revealed that the game is being delayed from its initial Summer 2021 release date. The game was originally scheduled to release on June 18th of 2021, but has now been pushed back. While this is certain to disappoint excited fans, there is always a silver lining as well. The new release date has already been revealed, so fans can now expect to see the game launch on October 12th, 2021. This is arguably a more fitting season for a zombie game anyway.

As previously stated, the tweet comes directly from the Back 4 Blood Twitter account, so there’s no way this is fake. While many fans are probably upset about this development, it is important to look back at the events of the last year and realize why this sort of delay is actually a good thing. In the end, it should make for a more polished and enjoyable game.

Although few probably need reminding at this point, every video game delay seems to draw attention back to the disaster that was Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch. This game also received multiple delays, but when put under pressure from both fans and higher ups, the game was released in an unfinished state. This led to it being completely removed from the PlayStation store and many refunds needing to be given out. As disappointing as this was, it likely served as a cautionary tale for developers and players everywhere.

Anyone would prefer to play Back 4 Blood in June over having to wait until October, but the developers clearly don’t feel as though the initial release date gave them enough time to fine tune everything. As the tweet above states, Turtle Rock Studios simply needs more time before it can release a game it will be proud of. In spite of this, it also shares exciting news that an open beta will be available this Summer, likely around the same time that the game was scheduled to release.

Fan reaction to this announcement is mixed, and many fans find themselves sorely disappointed. That said, the overwhelming majority seem to be understanding that delays such as this are necessary, and there’s quite a bit of excitement about this open beta. For those interested in trying the game out for themselves this Summer, be sure to keep an ear to the ground.

Back 4 Blood releases on October 12th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
