The Assassin’s Creed games are one of the most popular modern game franchises, and the fandom just keeps increasing with every passing entry. The series formula has undergone several changes at this point, with recent entries being more about role-playing elements as opposed to the social stealth found in the early Assassin’s Creed games.
It hasn’t been even a year since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s release and the rumor mill has started to churn out rumors regarding the next entry in the series. There’s a lot of rumors already, and it seems to be an opportune time to recap all that’s known about them so far.
This may sound the most obvious given the title, but it’s still a rumor regardless. Ubisoft hasn’t issued any statement regarding the release date for the next Assassin’s Creed but fans seem to believe that it would be at least 2022 before the next AC game hits shelves. The reasoning behind this seems to be the year gap between Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Coupling that with the impact and delays caused by COVID-19, the rumor seems to have a lot of credibility.
It is believed that the next game in the series would be developed by Ubisoft Sofia, the developer behind Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation and Assassin’s Creed Rogue. For now, it remains to be seen, but given that nearly 14 development studios worked on Valhalla with one leading, it’s not an impossible situation.
Assassin’s Creed 2022 has quite a number of rumors when it comes to the time period and the place where the game would be set. The first one seems to be China, about which the rumors started to swirl way back in 2017. A Ubisoft concept artist named John Bigorgne posted peculiar artworks on ArtStation which seemed to resemble an Assassin’s Creed China game.
Another rumor states that the next Assassin’s Creed would be set in India, an interesting option due to its rich history. Supposedly, the leaker also suggested it would have a sole female protagonist, with no option to change genders. More wind has been given to this rumor on account of a Assassin’s Creed world map leak, which also included the whole of India, but there’s nothing concrete for this or any other rumor here for that matter.
Japan is another rumored setting for the next Assassin’s Creed title. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima proves that there are a number of stories to tell within the land, and Assassin’s Creed could have a lot of potential as well. This has been rumored before, but it comes this time with a working title: Assassin’s Creed Warriors.
Ultimate, There’s still quite a bit of time until the next Assassin’s Creed releases. It seems that the rumor mill will continue to churn more rumors like these at a consistent pace nonetheless.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
