Though Humankind was originally slated for a release next month, developer Amplitude has pushed back the game’s release to later this year to put the final touches on it before its release.
This isn’t the first delay to hit Humankind. Originally, the 4X game was assigned a release window for sometime in 2019, which was then pushed back to April 2021 as the game entered an “OpenDev” phase to give players the opportunities to try some scenarios and provide feedback. It’s clear that the developers over at Amplitude care quite a bit about the community’s response to the game, which is made even more apparent with its most recent statement to delay the game into August 2021.
From Romain de Waubert, Amplitude’s Chief Creative Officer, Humankind has now been assigned a firm release date of August 17 so that the team can polish the game before its full release. “Players have always been at the heart of Amplitude’s philosophy,” the statement says. “We want to honor the community’s expectations for it.”
On its devblog, Amplitude outlines what exactly will be fine-tuned on Humankind during this delay period. Some of the elements include switching back to a different growth system based on surplus food, rebalancing food gains and money and the spending of these resources, nerfing some Cultures that proved to be too strong during the feedback phase, making conquering cities during sieges more difficult, adding more in-game tutorial videos, polishing management screens, enhancing notifications, and so many more.
During the OpenDev phase that Amplitude opened to the Humankind community, players did exactly what the developers had hoped by providing in-depth feedback, but it’s clear that Amplitude wants to resolve these many notes before Humankind‘s final release.
Humankind will release on August 17 for PC and Stadia.
