A true RPG to its heart, Bravely Default 2 is a single-player on the Nintendo Switch. It is also the third title in the Bravely Series thus far. It sports a turn-based combat system much like its predecessors. The game also builds upon the ‘Brave Points’ system from the previous titles Bravely Default and Bravely Second. As is it not a direct sequel, new players are finding it a great title to jump into JRPGs and the Bravely IP.
Unlike previous titles, Bravely Default 2 is set in a completely new continent named Excillant, and it is up to Seth, Gloria, Adelle, and Elvis to collect the 4 elemental crystals as they travel across Excillant. With such a vast world, a fast travel system is basically necessary for the game. Unfortunately, it is easy for newer players to altogether miss this feature due to its lack of mention in the prologue. This guide aims to help find and understand the fast travel system essential to Bravely Default 2. Regardless to say, the following contains content spoilers for the game.
Before unlocking fast-travel, players need to fulfill a single pre-requisite. Players need to complete the prologue to unlock fast-travel. The first phase of the quest requires the party (minus Gloria) to rescue Gloria with the help of Sir Sloan. Players then need to journey across the open world from Halcyonia to the kingdom of Savalon.
The journey ends with a boss battle with an empowered Horten. On defeating Horten, the BBEG of the game, Adam shows up and proceeds to utterly destroy the party. Sir Sloan sacrifices himself to protect the party and delay Adam just enough to where he loses his chance to kill them. The prologue concludes with the party paying their respects to Sir Sloan and entering Savalon.
After entering Savalon, the player is shown some conversation which acts as an introduction to the kingdom. Following this, one of the people who were having the conversation will have a horse-wagon icon appear above their head. On interacting with that person, the game gives a quick explanation about Wagons, which is the name of the fast-travel service in Bravely Default 2. There are at this point only 2 options on the menu, Halcyonia, and Savalon. But this list will expand as players explore the remaining 3 kingdoms of Excillant.
Once done with the prologue, players can interact with any of the Wagon vendors present near the entrance of each kingdom and Enderno. This will open up the Wagons menu where the player can simply select any other Wagon vendor’s location to fast-travel there. It is imperative to remember that fast-travel only works FROM and TO the Wagon vendors and nowhere else. If a player wishes to go anywhere else on the map, their best bet is to fast-travel to the closest vendor and walk from there to the objective.
The world of Bravely Default 2 is vast and full of hidden treasures, valiant quests, and numerous monsters. And a feature like fast-travel is absolutely necessary for players to maximize explorative efficiency while minimizing the time consumed. Exclusive to the Switch, Bravely Default 2 provides an old-school JRPG feel and heavy yet enjoyable story immersion. And this makes it a game worth grinding for 100% completion.
