Destiny 2: What The MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst Does & How To Find It

MIDA Multi-Tool is a classic scout rifle in Destiny 2 that’s seen a resurgence with Beyond Light. Now with better aim assisting it’s increasingly becoming a go-to weapon for players in PVP battles. While it may not be the best Scout Rifle out there, it certainly is one of the most dangerous in mid-range encounters.

The Catalyst MIDA Multi-Tool makes the weapon even more powerful. But it’s also one of the more frustrating Catalysts to track down in the game making some wonder if it’s even worth it. To decide for yourself here’s what the MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst does and how to find it.

The MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst provides the weapon with the perk Outlaw. Outlaw has a single effect:

  • Decrease reload speed following a Precision kill.

It may not seem like much but the ability to fire faster thanks to a decreased reload speed can make all the difference to DPS in important fights. It still requires decent aiming by the player to trigger, but this is much easier now thanks to the aiming assist buff.

Getting the MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst can be a little tricky. The MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst is a random drop as a result of winning Glory Rank 3 Fabled and up. Here are the chances for winning the different matches on the Competitive playlist.

  • Glory Rank 3 Fabled: 5% chance.
  • Glory Rank 4 Mythic: 5% – 10% chance.
  • Glory Rank 5 Legend: Guaranteed

Players will simply have to grind out Competitive playlist matches on at least Glory Rank 3 Fabled in order for the MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst to appear.

In Season of the Undying there was a Clan Perk known as Catalyst Seeker. This perk would increase the drop rate of catalysts obtained via Crucible wins when playing with clanmates. At the time it would give the player a 5% – 20% boost depending on the Glory Rank for MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst dropping.

That perk is no longer available in Season of the Chosen. There also doesn’t seem to be any perks at the moment that specifically increase the odds of the MIDA Multi-tool Catalyst dropping. Joining and fighting with a clan in this season will not increase the odds of a drop.

Obviously the higher Ranking you can play at the better off you are for a drop occurring. That being said it will only appear with a successful win. While the odds are better at Glory Rank 4 Mythic players may be better off grinding Glory Rank 3 Fabled if they have trouble winning consistently.

While the clan bonus may not exist there’s still a strong case to be made for joining a clan. The player is going to have to grind a lot of Crucible matches for the MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst to drop. Finding a skilled clan committed to this grind can go a long way to making the process easier. Especially if they can nudge you up to Glory Rank 5 Legend where the drop is guaranteed, though finding a clan that can do this is easier said than done.

Once the player has the Catalyst they’ll need to grind out 200 Precision kills in crucible to fully upgrade it. Simply put if the player wishes to heavily participate Crucible matches then going through the effort of tracking down the MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst and upgrading it is a good move. But if the player has a better weapon or isn’t terribly interested in PVP than it’s probably not worth it.
