How PC Gaming Can Be A Haven for Classic Games | Game Rant

When it comes to PC gaming, the big trend these days seems to be one that has people looking for the most powerful gaming computer they can get their hands on. Whether talking about a desktop or a laptop, the aim is usually buying a computer that can either hang with or surpass today’s modern consoles. However, those who always look for bigger, better, and more powerful, are missing out. Sometimes, older titles that might not carry the best graphics are actually better than the newer, flashier, shinier titles. The PC can really be a haven for some of the best classic games out there.

It certainly makes sense with the arrival of two, very powerful consoles in the PS5 and Xbox Series X that PC gamers would be looking towards powerful rigs themselves. There are, however, a couple of different reasons why they simply don’t need to try and match the power of these new generation consoles and still have a ton of fun. In fact, gamers that tend to lean towards classic games more than the newer, more powerful titles can also save themselves a pretty penny.

Saying that older games are cheaper than the $50, $60, or $70 titles that are currently available on the PS5 and the new Xbox consoles isn’t some massive revelation. However, it bears repeating that there are a ton of games on Steam, both those that are considered classic games, as well as what might be considered “neo-classic” that are plenty good and cost about a tenth of what new games demand.

Those lower prices are on games on an every day basis. A tenth the amount of money people are paying for something like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on the Xbox Series X or the PS5 doesn’t even take into account the many, many sales offered up on Steam several times a year. Games that are already not costing all that much to begin with are now even cheaper. When talking about old school games, it’s not unusual to find a title that costs two or three dollars that are still totally worth playing.

While backwards compatibility was more of a concern in the last generation of consoles, there are still games out there that can’t be played on the Xbox Series X/S or the PS5. There are still plenty out there that can’t even be played on the Xbox One or the PS4. Those same shortcomings don’t apply to PC games. Classic games aren’t geared for one generation of computer or another.

There are certainly some people out there that aren’t going to be a good fit for what classic PC games have to offer. Those people are looking for photorealistic graphics the likes of which the Xbox Series X has to offer. There are people looking for the next big game, the next 45-hour open world title. However, for those who still enjoy what some of the older titles have to offer, they don’t need to rely on what they can get on consoles. There’s a whole world of offerings out there on PC.
