Monster Hunter Rise is all about killing big monsters, carving those said monsters, and then using their parts to craft stronger weapons and armor. It’s an addicting cycle and hunters will always want to make sure that their armor is up to snuff. However, for the hunters out there that don’t necessarily enjoy the design of an armor set but would like to keep the stats, there’s a way to do that with Layered Armor, otherwise known as a transmog system in other video games.
Layered Armor is unlocked pretty early on in Monster Hunter Rise, shortly after players get through some of the opening parts of the game. Once players have access to Senri the Mailman, who is right in front of the Village Quest Counter, they’ll be able to speak to him and download any add-on content that the player might have waiting for them. There are several Layered Armor sets available, and most of them come from pre-orders and the deluxe version of the game.
Once players have Layered Armor unlocked, they can put it on by going over to an item box, and then clicking on the Layered Armor Settings tab, and then Change Layered Armor. As previously mentioned, these armor sets are purely cosmetic and will have no effect on the player’s stats or abilities. If players go over to the Buddy Board in the middle of Kamura Village, they will also be able to put Layered Armor on their Palico and Palamute buddies.
It’s done exactly the same way as the hunter. Go to Layered Armor Settings, and then Change Layered Armor. Putting this on your companions will surely make them look stylish during combat encounters, and they’ll still have the stats from the armor they’re wearing underneath, which is really handy. Players can keep the same Layered Armor on for the entirety of the game if they wish to do so.
As of right now, the Magnamalo-themed Layered Armor and the others from the deluxe edition aren’t available any other way, but there could be a chance for Capcom to release all of the exclusive armor sets in the game for everyone to unlock.
Once players choose the Layered Armor that they want to don, they can continue fighting the large monsters in the game in order to increase their hunter rank, get the best armor sets in the game, and see the story to the end.
Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC port will launch in early 2022.
