‘Halloween’ Star Says Michael Myers’ Retaliation Will Be Next Level

After being delayed for an entire year due to the pandemic, fans will be able to see Halloween Kills this October. Halloween Kills star Andi Matichak stated that the long-awaited sequel will satisfy fans and deserves to be shown in theatres.

The upcoming slasher film is the twelfth installment in the Halloween franchise and the direct sequel to director David Gordon Green’s 2018 reboot, which saw Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode confront her long-time nemesis Michael Myers (Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney) for the first time since his 1978 killing spree. The film rejuvenated the forty-year franchise, as it received positive reviews from critics and grossed $255 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. Due to the film’s success, two subsequent sequels (Halloween Kills & Halloween Ends) were green-lit by Universal.

David Gordon Green returned to direct Halloween Kills. The film was produced by Blumhouse Productions and written by Green, Danny McBride, and Scott Teems. It will see Laurie once again try to fend off Michael. Teems revealed that the sequel is like the first movie “on steroids,” with Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak reprising their roles in the upcoming blockbuster. The 2018 reboot concluded with Michael escaping from Laurie’s basement safe room. Despite being wounded and trapped inside a burning house, the post-credits scene indicated that Michael Myers was still alive.

Matichak, who plays Strode’s granddaughter Allyson, told The Boo Crew that Michael is out for revenge in Halloween Kills. “It is… a movie that I think fans will be very happy with,” said the 26-year-old actress. “It’s big, and it’s bad, and it’s mean. And we see Michael… I think Laurie, Allyson, and Karen pissed him off a little bit, by locking him in the basement, because his retaliation is next level.” Matichak previously noted that she wasn’t “bummed” that the film was delayed because she believes that it should be shown in theatres.

Curtis first played Laurie over forty years ago in John Carpenter’s Halloween and Kills marks the sixth time she has played the iconic character. However, the 2018 reboot jettisoned the events of all the sequels from canon, meaning Strode’s encounter with Michael in the 1978 film was officially considered her only confrontation with the masked killer. Curtis stated that Kills is a “masterpiece” and will explore the themes of trauma, community fear, and power.

Meanwhile, John Carpenter stated that the blockbuster is the ultimate slasher film and has a massive kill count. Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends were initially planned to be filmed back-to-back, but plans fell through due to Kill’s intense shooting schedule.

Halloween Kills is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 15, 2021.
