Crafting gear is an integral part in the Monster Hunter series and Monster Hunter Rise is of course no exception. Players will need to take down various monsters, often multiple times, if they wish to make specific gear themed around the monster in question. One such material that players may need in Monster Hunter Rise, is the Magna Ghostprism.
Players will need to reach either 5 star rank quests in the village, or reach 3 star rank quests in the hub to be able to get Magna Ghostprisms. The latter might sound easier, but the hub’s monsters have more health and while able to be scaled for single player, are intended to be undertaken with multiple hunters. The village quests will also provide more of the plot to those interested, so it may be best to approach this from doing the village quests rather than the hub quests, but the choice is up to the player.
In order to progress through the ranks though, regardless of what type of quest players choose to complete, key quests will need to be completed. Unlike previous Monster Hunter games that used the key quests system, players do not have to complete every key quest in a star rank in order to unlock the urgent quest to open up access to the next set of quests. Players simply need to complete a set number of them, usually between 3 to 5. This allows players to skip certain monsters they may not wish to deal with at the time.
Players will need to be at the aforementioned star ranks because these are the ranks in which Magnamalo first becomes available to fight. Technically, the village Magnamalo fight is the urgent quest that unlocks the 5 star rank quests, but the quest itself is a 5 star quest. Magna Ghostprisms are Magnamalo materials and fortunately for players looking to get them, they’re actually a fairly common drop unlike some of its other materials like plates or horns. While there is only a 16% chance of being awarded a Magna Ghostprism for defeating Magnamalo, the Ghostprisms are a fairly common drop should players notice a shiny drop from Magnamalo. When picking up a drop, it is most likely to be a Wyvern Tear or a Magna Ghostprism. There is even a chance of getting two Ghostprisms with one drop.
As for what the Ghostprims can be used for, players will need 4 if they wish to craft the Magnamalo armor. Specifically, the waist piece and the leg armor both require 2 Ghostprisms to craft. The waist also requires a Magnamalo plate though, which has a very low drop chance, so players looking to craft the full armor set will likely get caught up on the plate before the Ghostprisms. But Ghostprisms are used in weapon crafting too, so even without a plate, they have their uses. Notably, just beating Magnamalo in the village quests will reward players with a unique weapon.
Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC release is slated for 2022.
