Spider-Man fans are a loyal bunch, with many following the webslinger’s adventures in games, movies, and comics for their entire lives. As such, it makes sense that some artistic Spider-Man fans would want to put their own spin on one of his most iconic costumes.
A Redditor named kiwicifer has shared a suit concept to r/Spiderman, the subreddit dedicated to the Marvel superhero. In the post, the Reddit user is sharing an original take on the beloved Symbiote suit, and fans should be able to notice the differences right away. For starters, Peter Parker’s costume is not entirely black in this outfit. Throughout the black suit’s history, the Symbiote has always covered Peter from head to toe, making this design a major change from the usual formula.
While past Symbiote suit concepts have made adjustments to the version seen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, this fan’s costume makes an edit to the MCU Spider-Man suit. While a majority is covered in black, as Peter’s legs, arms, and part of his body are darker, there are spots of red seen throughout the suit. The top of his gloves, for example, have a red square similar to Venom’s white square. Both the symbol and mask are left alone, keeping their red color intact. Spidey’s eyes also remain as they do in the MCU costume.
An interesting aspect of kiwicifer’s design is how the webbing remains for the symbol. In most costumes, the symbol is usually a different color and texture to help it stand out. With a design that makes it look as if the Symbiote is actively taking over the suit, though, this is not needed, allowing for the unique webbed symbol to be used. Other details include pieces of the Symbiote protruding from the suit and some claws that once again resemble the legendary villain Venom.
Unsurprisingly, Spidey fans had plenty of praise for this suit, with many pointing out its similarities to the Superior Spider-Man suit. Worn when Peter’s classic nemesis Doctor Octopus takes over his body, that black and red suit boasts a similar pattern to the one seen in this fan concept. Other Redditors praised the creative way of handling the spider logo, while patmax17 offered some constructive criticism of the fan’s art piece. Suggesting that part of the Symbiote appear on the mask somewhere, as the full redness makes it a bit “top-heavy,” the argument is fair. Like the other commenters, though, patmax17 is positive on the overall idea.
While there have been plenty of great Spider-Man suit concepts thus far, this one may rank near the top for Symbiote fans. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 rumored to introduce Venom, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man rumored to crossover into Sony’s film universe so he can face off with the villain, it will be interesting to see how the next official Symbiote suits look.
