2016 Ratchet and Clank Game Getting PS5 Update | Game Rant

Ratchet & Clank has been one of Sony’s most consistent franchises, with numerous titles released in the series over the PS2 and PS3 generations. On PS4, new Ratchet & Clank releases slowed down quite a bit, with that system only having one new game in the series. The 2016 Ratchet & Clank game on PS4 is a re-imagining of the original game’s story and earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release, and now PS5 owners will have another reason to revisit it.

Insomniac Games has announced that the 2016 Ratchet & Clank game will be getting a new update in April. Once the update is implemented, the new game will be playable in 60 frames per second when played on a PlayStation 5 system. Some may be scratching their heads as to why Insomniac Games would bother updating a five year old game, but it actually makes quite a bit of sense.

One of the main reasons is likely due to Ratchet & Clank being part of the PlayStation Play at home campaign. Until March 31 at 8pm PT, PS4 and PS5 owners can claim Ratchet & Clank and add it to their digital libraries. It stands to reason that this has led to many more people having the chance to play the game, including those that have managed to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 console.

The update could convince more PS5 players to check out Ratchet & Clank, which in turn could get them more interested in the new game that’s coming out. For the uninitiated, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is coming to PS5 this summer, serving as the first next-generation game in the series. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart promises to be far more technologically advanced than the 2016 game, but boosting the previous title’s FPS to 60 should still give fans a slightly better idea of what to expect from the next entry.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will use the PS5’s SSD to allow for near-instant loading from one stage to the next, which is the new game’s main gimmick. Fans can expect some other PS5-exclusive features in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as well, including use of the DualSense controller’s unique capabilities. The 2016 Ratchet & Clank game will still lack these bells and whistles, but the update should bring it closer to Rift Apart in terms of technical performance at least.

More information on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, including the mysterious female Lombax, will likely come to light at some point between now and the game’s June release date. In the meantime, fans can revisit the 2016 Ratchet & Clank game to help pass the time.

Ratchet & Clank is out now for PS4.
