Depressing Pokemon Fan Theory Explains Glastrier and Spectrier

While it may not have much evidence to back up its claim, this one Pokemon Sword and Shield theory suggests how two Pokemon were created from the Galarian Ponyta.

Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon introduced the idea that different regions might share some of the same species of Pokemon but will have their own regional forms that changed due to evolution. Sword and Shield, set in the Galar region and based on the U.K. in the real world, continued this trend such as with the Galarian Meowth and the Galarian Legendary Bird trio. This can even change the Pokemon’s type; for example, Ponyta and Rapidash are normally fire-type Pokemon, but their Galarian counterparts are psychic and fairy-type Pokemon. The Galarian Rapidash has a long, curly mane and pink fur around its fetlocks.

One Pokemon fan theory claims that two other Pokemon that seemed to be related to one another are related to the Galarian Rapidash, noting its unique Galar characteristics and design. From u/Gamingwithbrendan on Reddit, this theory claims that the mysterious Pokemon Glastrier and Spectrier originated from the Galarian Rapidash after it got lost and froze to death. It then split into Glastrier, the frozen corpse of the deceased Pokemon, and Spectrier, the ghost of the Rapidash.

The Redditor looks at the designs of the three Pokemon for evidence that they might be related. Like the Galarian Rapidash, Spectrier also has a long but tired-looking mane, and its hooves are also adorned with long fur that flows backward in the same way. However, the only similarities Glastrier shares with the Rapidash is its horn and pointy ears. While this isn’t much to go on, it’s interesting when considering that Spectrier and Glastrier are tied together in one way: Calyrex, the mascot of The Crown Tundra.

Calyrex is a unique Pokemon. In Pokemon Sword and Shield lore, Calyrex used to travel Galar and bring green to the wastelands. It can also use the Reins of Unity to be fused with either Galstrier or Spectrier, where it will then take on a new form called Ice Rider or Shadow Rider Calyrex, reaching its maximum potential of power. While Pokemon lore doesn’t explain why, it suggests that Calyrex no longer travels Galar with its steed and doesn’t recognize them.

Redditor u/Gamingwithbrendan also posits that Calyrex used to ride a Galarian Rapidish until it got lost and died, turning into Spectrier and Glastrier. This would also explain why Calyrex no longer recognizes its steeds.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are out now for Nintendo Switch.
