PewDiePie Reacts to David Dobrik Apology Videos | Game Rant

YouTuber David Dobrik found himself the center of controversy over the last few weeks after accusations of toxic behavior by former members of Dobrik’s group, the Vlog Squad. These accusations ranged from fostering a toxic work environment to sexually inappropriate behavior towards former members of the Vlog Squad which Dobrik has since issued public apologies for. These apologies have been met with blowback, with fellow YouTuber PewDiePie offering his own thoughts about Dobrik’s statement.

PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, is one of the biggest YouTubers in the world and is no stranger to controversy himself. His most notable controversies included sharing using Nazi imagery in videos and streams, which he claimed was satire, and various instances of using racial slurs. Despite these controversies, PewDiePie remains among the most subscribed channels on YouTube.

PewDiePie opened his latest stream on March 28 saying he was “right” and “called” the blowback against about the beleaguered vlogger. He joked about how it took Dobrik losing 400,000 subs on YouTube and being dropped by all his sponsors for the vlogger to issue an apology that seemed sincere. Kjellberg then reasserted his previous statements about Dobrik where he compared him to controversial YouTuber Logan Paul around the time he was cancelled by social media in 2017.

Since Dobrik issued his second apology, YouTube demontized all of his channels while Dobrik remains silent on all other social media platforms. Content continues to be uploaded to Facebook, though Kjellberg said it was likely “some company” posting finished content with no input from Dobrik.

The accusations don’t appear to be slowing down, either, as more alleged victims of Dobrik continue coming forward or contacting other social media personalities to share their stories. Multiple accusations include Dobrik’s right-hand man Jason Nash and former squad member Durte Dom, both of whom are accused of sexual assault and rape.

Despite the windfall hitting Dobrik, it would not be surprising to see the controversial YouTuber return to the platform at some point. PewDiePie asserted this much, saying he was “sure he’ll be back.” The question is whether or not Dobrik will be welcomed back onto the platform when he does return.

The aforementioned Logan Paul was seemingly welcomed back on the platform, though not with several hits to his public image. He and his brother Jake have since parleyed this into a successful boxing careers while rebuilding their presence on YouTube.

However, the Paul’s are just one example and there are others who have not rebounded from their respective controversies. Shane Dawson has remained largely silent on social media and hasn’t posted a new video to his YouTube channel since his apology video June 26, 2020, for his use of racial slurs and blackface, among other controversies.
