With Japan being the home country of the Pokemon franchise, it is not surprising that the local marketing team continues to develop interesting activities for the region’s Pokemon fans. Recently The Pokemon Company partnered once again with another prefecture in Japan to pay homage to one of the most iconic Water-type Pokemon in the series. Using Slowpoke as their muse, fans will now be able to find a Slowpoke-themed mailbox in one of the cities in the Kagawa prefecture.
Japan is host to many Pokemon activities that try to incorporate the imaginary pocket monsters into the real world. Some of these include having specific Pokemon-themed cafes in the country’s major cities, while some even include having a Grimer-themed talking recycling bin that encourages awareness for the environment and sustainability. All of these initiatives are likely a great way to keep loyal fans engaged. They also boost the country’s tourism industry, encouraging many locals to check out locations that may not be as high-profile as other popular tourist spots.
In Takamatsu City located within the Kagawa prefecture, The Pokemon Company partnered with Japan Post and the prefecture’s government offices to produce a postal mailbox that is themed after Slowpoke. The mailbox can be visited by fans in front of the Takamatsu Chuo Post Office, and it is not just for show. The postal box can be used to send letters in and out of Japan like any other mailbox in the country. Though this mailbox is the first of its kind, it is not the first Slowpoke-themed item that can be found in the prefecture. Visitors will also see the popular Pokemon manhole cover designs around the prefecture, but these highlight Slowpoke instead of other Pokemon.
Visitors who stay around the Slowpoke mailbox can also visit the interior of the Takamatsu Chuo Post Office, and grab a souvenir stamp with a Slowpoke and udon noodle soup design to commemorate the visit. When touring around the city, fans may also witness the postal van decked out in Slowpoke decals delivering the daily mail to the city’s residents. This is likely a pleasant sight to see for fans who knew about the Exeggutor-themed Pokemon planes launched last year, but were not able to experience flying in them.
With the many prefectures to be found in Japan, it is only a matter of time before The Pokemon Company assigns a designated Pokemon for each one. Given the current situation with the pandemic, international fans are likely hoping travel restrictions will ease soon, so they can visit these cute little Pokemon nooks in Japan.
