Animal Crossing: New Horizons Introduces Nook Points | Game Rant

Nintendo offers more of a reason to log into the Nintendo Switch Online app and play Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the new Nook Points feature. These will offer daily points redeemable for in-game items.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was one of the biggest hits of 2020 alongside other award-winning games like Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, likely in-part because it released just as the ongoing pandemic began forcing countries into strict lockdown procedures. It became the only way for many friends and family members to interact with one another safely. While popularity may have flourished once again during the holidays, and Animal Crossing still has a number of active players, interest in Nintendo’s life sim has largely died down.

Now, in an attempt to regain interest in New Horizons with fans, Nintendo has added a new feature in the Nintendo Switch Online app that has in-game rewards. Previously, aside from uploading clothing and path designs to Animal Crossing, the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app didn’t influence gameplay much. Starting today, players can log in to the app and collect Nook Points.

Ten Nook Points can be collected through the app on a daily basis, and they can be redeemed for in-game items via Nook Link, the same program that allows players to scan designs and upload them to their games. The redeemable in-game items currently include Nook Inc. items such as a poster featuring Tom Nook, a doorplate, an exclusive Aloha-edition Switch carrying case, a picture of Timmy and Tommy, a picture of Tom Nook, and a picture of Isabelle. Aside from trading with other players, the only way to receive these items to by using the new Nook Points system.

Players can also get various Nook Points bonuses, similar to the Nook Mile bonuses in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which earns rewards such as double the number of Nook Points when checking in for the day. It’s possible these bonuses could increase to up to 30 or 40 points per day, though it’s currently unclear if some kind of log-in streak is involved.

While these New Horizons items aren’t very exciting, hopefully more exclusive and attractive items will be added later on to give players more of a reason to use the Nook Points system. Under the “Redemption History” tab of Nook Link, players can view the past 100 items they’ve ordered through this system, meaning more items will likely be added as time passes.

To receive the exclusive Animal Crossing: New Horizons items, players can order them via the Nook Link app by redeeming Nook Points, and it’ll be delivered to the player’s mailbox in-game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for Nintendo Switch.
