Fortnite gets a GPU performance and resolution boost on Switch

Starting today, Epic Games will release an update to enhance the player experience for Fortnite on Switch.

According to the company, it is upgrading the renderer on the Nintendo Switch to make better use of the console’s GPU in order to up the resolution on Fortnite.

What this means for Switch players is significantly improved resolution both in handheld and docked modes, resulting in images that are less blurry, without loss of performance.

The update also provides a more consistent framerate, with fewer hitches, resulting in an overall smoother experience.

Fortnite on Switch will still use dynamic resolution when needed to ensure a consistent framerate, but this will occur less frequently, and overall resolution will be significantly higher.

Before on handheld, the resolution was 1000×560, now it is 1170×660. In docked mode, resolution has changed from 1390×780 to 1560×880.

With the update, Switch players will also save about 140MB of storage space.

Fortnite Season 6 kicked off a couple of weeks ago with a new set of collaborative skins based on Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft. It also introduced weapon crafting, the game’s first single-player story segment, and a host of other new skins.
