Magic Legends: How to Fast Travel | Game Rant

There are pros and cons to games using fast travel, and gamers will often debate whether they like or dislike the mechanic. Plenty of games use fast travel systems to help players get around, and Magic: Legends counts itself as one of them. However, new Planeswalkers will have to do a bit of work to unlock fast travel capabilities.

Magic: Legends recently launched its open beta on PC, ahead of its full launch later this year on consoles as well. Developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment, the two had worked together before on Neverwinter, a similar action RPG based on Dungeons & DragonsMagic: Legends is another action-RPG game that combines aspects of deck-building from the Magic: The Gathering card game with the gameplay of the Diablo series.

Unfortunately, fast travel will not be available at the start of the game. It will take an hour or two to unlock it, depending on how quick players can get through quests. After players choose their starting class for Magic: Legends, they will need to complete the tutorial, which explains gameplay and kickstarts the story. Players will then be sent to the plane of Zendikar, and will have to get through the first mission, “Wild Energies.”

While players will not be able to fast travel during the first mission on Zendikar, the actual fast travel points can be noticed throughout the map. These look like pentagons and diamonds set in stone, and will typically start glowing when walked by. With the next quest on Zendikar, “A Dangerous Shift,” players will unlock the ability to fast travel. From then on, players will just need to walk near fast travel points and get them glowing to make them available for later use.

Once players can have to ability unlocked, all they will have to do is open the map, decide on a location, and choose an activated fast travel point to teleport to. There will be five different locations to start with, but the beta will only have Zendikar, Dominaria, and Innistrad available. Thankfully, Planeswalkers in Magic: Legends can fast travel from any place, as players don’t have to be near a travel point to initiate fast travelling.

One thing that players should keep in mind is that opening menus does not pause the game. It is entirely possible for a player to be attacked by enemies while trying to fast travel, so caution is needed. It wouldn’t be fun to accidentally die just because enemies aren’t fully cleared in a player’s vicinity.

On the bright side, when fast traveling is unlocked, multiplayer also opens up for Magic: Legends. Players will be able to get through the game with friends, so they can have someone watching their backs whenever someone might have a menu opened. While multiplayer allows for fun co-op play, it does come with a current issue in the beta. Due to a bug or gameplay mishap, when another player is on a fast travel point, players will not be able to select the same fast travel point to go to. Hopefully the developers fix this issue, since players essentially body-blocking other players can make for irritating situations.

Cryptic Studios’ Magic: Legends open beta has only been live for a short while, but many players have dived into the action-RPG take on Magic: The Gathering. While it is still in beta, many players have pointed out issues they are having with the game, like the issue with fast travel body-blocking. If Cryptic Studios can improve the game before its official launch later this year, Magic: Legends could have a ton of potential.

Magic: Legends is in open beta for PC, and will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One later in 2021.
