Pokemon GO Announces Spring Event With Shiny Bunnelby and Mega Lopunny

For a short while, Pokemon GO is celebrating the changing of the season with a spring event. The event will run for four days, and during this time, Niantic is increasing the appearance of spring-themed Pokemon. This includes a flower crown-wearing Pikachu and Chansey, as well as Exeggcute, Marill, Plusle, Minun, Bunneary, and Bunnelby, all of which will appear more frequently in the wild. The featured attractions for this event are Shiny Bunnelby and Mega Lopunny, marking the first time it will be available as a Mega Raid boss. The Pokemon GO spring event begins on April 4 and will run until 8 PM local time on April 8.

During the event, players will also encounter two additional Shiny Pokemon. There’s a chance to encounter a Shiny Chansey, while a Shiny Happiny can be hatched. That’s not the only incentive to hatching, though, as flower a crown-wearing Happiny, Pichu, and Eevee can be obtained from 2 km eggs while the event lasts. The time to hatch will be cut by half and players will receive twice the amount of candy during the event. Taking on Team GO Rocket grunts may see players encountering a Shadow Exeggcute, and the event also offers Field Research tasks exclusive to the event that lead to even more encounters with different Pokemon.

There are also a variety of other Pokemon GO events planned for April. There’s Team GO Rocket Timed Research, Rivals’ Week, and Sustainability Week planned throughout the month. With all of the events, it should brighten up the days of players during those pesky April showers. The schedule will kick off at the very beginning of the month when players can start working on the April Research Breakthrough Reward, which is Water- and Ghost-type Pokemon.

As always, a Community Day is also planned for later in April as well. For the first time in the game’s history, an Unova-region Pokemon will be featured in the event. Niantic announced the April 2021 Community Day Pokemon last week via Twitter, revealing it will be Snivy, a Grass-type that was one of the three starter choices for Generation 5. Once the event kicks off, players will have six hours of Snivy spawns to take advantage of, which increases the chances of encountering a Shiny version of the Pokemon.

The way trainers currently play these events–and the game itself–could potentially change. Niantic CEO John Hanke tweeted a photo of what looks to be Niantic-brand augmented reality glasses, along with a message about making new devices to leverage the company’s platform. Though nothing was officially announced, Niantic teasing AR glasses could mean big things for the future of Pokemon GO. After all, AR glasses would be the next logical step to making the game more immersive.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
