‘The Suicide Squad’ TV Spots Show Off More Of The DC Team

Hot off the heels of The Suicide Squad‘s official first trailer, several TV spots have already started rolling out, offering yet more glimpses at the dysfunctional team of anti-heroes. While the TV spots themselves are mostly recut from the trailer that’s made it’s way around recently, they do have some slightly altered scenes, giving a few more looks at things that were only briefly touched on in the original trailer.

Those who saw that first The Suicide Squad trailer will already know the basics: The Suicide Squad is a team composed of various washouts, screw-ups, and villains who have ended up in maximum security prison for some reason or another. If they choose to go on incredibly dangerous missions on behalf of the government, they can get some time knocked off their sentence, just with the risk that any type of failure or insubordination means instant death via an implanted explosive in their head.

The first Suicide Squad film had a mixed reception, and it seems The Suicide Squad is more or less ignoring that project entirely. While Viola Davis and Margot Robbie have returned as Amanda Waller and Harley Quinn, the new story seems entirely unrelated to the events of the previous film, and the squad is mostly made up of newcomers like John Cena’s Peacemaker character.

That said, there are quite a few new faces in the cast, and it’s certainly easy to lose track. Someone who didn’t get much screen time in the trailer was Peter Capaldi as Thinker. The new TV spot doesn’t reveal his powerset for the films or what exactly his role in the plot will be, but it does give him a line of dialogue on-camera, revealing that he is the one who provides the “this is suicide” line from the original trailer’s voiceover.

An additional TV spot also went out, featuring a few more action shots and a couple of new images. Most interestingly, director James Gunn shared this clip on Instagram with the caption, “There’s something behind Ratcatcher 2.” The character only appears for a brief moment standing in front of the giant beast that will likely be the main antagonist of the film, Starro the Conqueror, a giant alien starfish.

While the TV spots don’t add a whole lot of new information for those who have already seen the trailer, they are a nice addition to it and are worth a look for anyone who can’t get enough info about this particular DC film.

The Suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max on August 6th.
