While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War certainly has its fans, reception to the game has paled in comparison to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The Modern Warfare reboot from Infinity Ward made some bold steps forward for the blockbuster first-person shooter franchise, broke sales records, and is hailed as one of the better FPS games that released on last generation consoles. The game still has a massive number of active players that want new content updates, and as it so happens, they got one recently.
With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2 Reloaded, a new update was also released for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update adds the Killhouse map to the game, making its return from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A Killhouse 24/7 mode has also been added to the available Call of Duty: Modern Warfare playlists so fans can get their fill of the new map.
Two other maps were also made available in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as of the latest update, though they are only accessible in Private Matches at the time of this writing. The maps include the new Drainage map for Gunfight, as well as the Al-Raab Airbase map for standard multiplayer. It’s unclear when these maps will be added to the rotation of maps in the game’s online multiplayer, but one has to imagine that it will happen sooner rather than later.
What’s interesting about this new update is that it has added maps that were previously believed to be part of the rumored Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7. For the uninitiated, leakers claimed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would be getting a Season 7 content update, which would have included these maps, along with an additional map for Gunfight in the form of Townhouse, though that didn’t make it in this update.
It was also believed that Soap would debut as an Operator in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7, but that also has yet to happen. The addition of these maps seems to be a good indication that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 isn’t actually happening, but it’s still nice that fans got some new maps to play on regardless.
While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 is unlikely, fans should be able to look forward to a direct sequel. Rumors point to a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel as 2022’s Call of Duty game, so it will be interesting to see if that prediction is correct.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
