Call of Duty: Warzone Update May Have Secretly Nerfed the FFAR

Call of Duty: Warzone‘s Season 2 has been characterized by a meta of players using primarily the AUG and FFAR. Fans were disappointed to see that there were no FFAR nerfs listed in the updates patch notes, but some digging by YouTuber JGOD has found that the weapon has indeed been touched.

Many fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the FFAR during Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2. The weapon has been favored by very aggressive players and content creators in the battle royale for its dominance in close encounters as well as its speed that helped players get an early drop on enemies. The frustrations with the gun were highlighted by many big voices in the community such as HusKerrs calling for the guns to be nerfed in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Despite the patch notes only listing changes for Warzone‘s also over-powered AUG, JGOD’s findings show that the nerf comes in the form of two popular attachments for the weapon being slightly altered to lessen the weapon’s universal strength. The first attachment to get hit with changes is the 20.3″ Takedown barrel. Previously favored by aggressive players for its buffs to strafe speed and high bullet velocity, the barrel has been altered with a lower bullet velocity and a higher damage range instead. The increased strafe speed has been entirely removed, largely slowing down the weapon’s handling.

The second change comes from a universal nerf to the Fast Mag attachments on all of the weapons from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The attachment was originally described as slowing a weapon’s aim down sight time, but the effect was rather negligible. The negative impact has been greatly increased now, making it much more noticeable. In the video, JGOD recommends opting for the STANAG 50 Rnd magazine instead to avoid the heavy 50 milliseconds slow down to the weapon’s ADS speed.

All of the changes together seem to be focused on changing the FFAR’s role in engagements. The slower movement speeds should limit players’ ability to react in closer encounters, making the weapon shine at medium range as the weapon is still going to be very strong when starting engagements already looking down the sights. Undoubtedly, the FFAR will still be a popular gun in Call of Duty: Warzone, but the changes should help it feel more balanced and less punishing for players who run a different loadout. The FFAR changes, as well as the much-needed nerf to the AUG, will hopefully shake up the meta quite a bit as players jump back into the game to see what else is new in the Season 2 Reloaded update.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
