Ever since the release of Little Nightmares 2, fans have been aching for a closer look into the gloomy and dangerous world protagonists Mono and Six venture through. For any curious fans with lingering questions about the mysterious Pale City, look no further than the Little Nightmares Comics series. This comic series is a great addition to the game’s story and does a great job immersing readers into the world they’re so curious about.
For those who are interested in the series and want to know where to start or get an idea of what is in store for them, here are some interesting things to know before diving into the comics.
Disclaimer: This serves less as a summary of the comics series but as a preview or outline of interesting details that are made to encourage fans to go and check out the comic series for themselves!
8 It’s Available Via An App
Collecting physical copies of comics is fun but sometimes difficult when trying to track certain issues/series down. The Little Nightmares Comics are all completely digital; made easy and convenient for fans everywhere to access. Not only are these issues digital, but they’re also all condensed into an organized, dedicated app for users to easily navigate through.
The entire series (a total of six issues) is available via the Little Nightmares Comics app on the Google Play Store.
7 It’s Completely Free!
One of the best parts of the Little Nightmares Comics is how accessible it is for its fans. To make things even easier for Little Nightmares fanatics, the comics are completely free of charge to download.
Fans have been curious about the Little Nightmares story, lore, and universe since the release of the very first game. Comics over time can slowly grow and become an expensive hobby, so it was a great treat for fans to be gifted such a beautifully detailed experience.
6 There Are Two Separate Series Of Comics
After the release of the first game in 2017, comics were published by Titan Comics. This first round of comics featured Six and detailed more of her story on The Maw, the ship from the first game. Unfortunately, this series was canceled after only two issues. This series was intended to run for a total of four issues but had the plug pulled prematurely.
The new series, formally titled “Little Nightmares Comics,” focuses on the events and characters of Little Nightmares 2. This series ran for its intended six issues and also was distributed digitally this time around to help be more accessible.
5 It’s A Dynamic Comic
The six issues of the comic don’t waste any time in fully immersing the reader. Even the simple menu to choose each episode is beautifully animated and accompanied by haunting music. This comic reads as a dynamic experience and feels like a true extension of the game and not just a simple side project.
The reader scrolls through each panel as music amps up and changes as the comic progresses through the story. Each panel is animated ever so slightly to give a subtle yet dynamic effect of movement. It avoids static panels as it can sometimes stifle the world-building and ruin some of the experience. Even with the comic being free for fans to read, it’s obvious the creators spared no expense when making them as beautiful and immersive as they are.
4 It Serves As A Prequel To The Events In Little Nightmares 2
Little Nightmares 2 begins with Mono waking up in the woods and setting off to begin his journey. However, little is known about how Six ended up as The Hunter’s prisoner in the first place.
The first episode of the comic series focuses on the original game’s protagonist, Six, and her first run-in with The Hunter. This episode also shows the instance in which Six first sees Mono. Apparently, the moment Mono rescues Six (seen in the game) isn’t the first time the two had actually met.
3 It Tells The Tales Of Other Children
Not only do the comics allow readers to learn more about Mono and Six, but they also get a glimpse into the lives of the other tortured children that are subjected to the harsh world of the Pale City.
Each new episode is dedicated to a new character, showing their story as they try to escape to a safe haven. It’s always been a question among fans if Six, Mono, and Seven (the character featured in the Little Nightmares DLC) were the only “normal” children left in their world; these comics finally answer this question.
2 It Integrates Motion Sensors On Your Phone/Tablet
It may not be obvious at first but the comics do include the use of motion controls. Within every panel, tilting the device in any direction will really let the dynamic animation shine. Tilting the phone/tablet will allow the layers of the panel (the background, foreground, characters, etc.) to move dynamically with the direction the device is being tilted.
This detail may be a small one but it adds to the overall feel and beautiful art style of the entire series. Its integration of the motion sensor is such a subtle detail that most readers may not notice at first but it’s definitely a fun addition to try out!
1 The Game Bosses Make A Cameo
Some of the most intense parts of the comic series are the various cameos the games’ bosses get throughout the episodes. Their appearances are chilling, their animations and accompanying music truly do their menacing presence justice and doesn’t take anyway any level of immersion.
Their appearances, although brief, are just as terrifying as their battles in the games. Even without having to worry about evading and hiding from these monsters, the comics make the experience so detailed, their presence is still somehow just as scary.
