Genshin Impact: 10 Mistakes Players Make When Using Diluc

So, you probably tried to pull for Hu Tao but instead got Diluc? Or Hu Tao mains have been flaunting their millions of damage, making your Diluc feel inadequate? Well, worry not because he’s still the gold standard for general DPS due to how easy he is to use and how straightforward his damage can be all the time.

Of course, using Diluc is more demanding now than ever due to the recent power creep that happened among the 5-star DPS characters of Genshin ImpactIn order for him to keep up, he has to be at the top of his game and mistakes can cost him some precious DPS or his ranking in the tier lists. Hence, it’s best to avoid mistakes, after all, wouldn’t want Diluc to be as inefficient as the Knights of Favonius now, do we?

10 Using Diluc In The Hidden Palace Of Zhou Formula

For many players who just got Diluc, doing this will give Diluc mains a bad reputation. The Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula is notorious for punishing pyro characters due, especially those who trigger the Overloaded reaction (electro + pyro). Sadly, many players who picked Diluc as their main character don’t bother reading this tidbit of info.

This leads to them dying early and looking like completely arrogant newbies. While players can avoid using Diluc’s pyro abilities in order to still utilize him in the said Domain, that’s suboptimal and they’re better off using another character for support.

9 Vaporize Is Better Than Melt, For Now

On paper, Melt, with its 2x damage, looks more appealing than Vaporize’s 1.5x multiplier when triggered using pyro damage. In practice, the cryo characters in the game aren’t too good at actually applying cryo, at least when compared to Xinqiu’s Elemental Burst.

Thus, this can lead to an overall lower DPS as calculated by the community. As it is, the current best combination for Diluc would be Xinqiu solely for his hydro application abilities; it lets Diluc deal more than 500,000 damage in a span of fewer than ten seconds. Until they release a cryo character that can apply the cryo status better than Xinqiu can apply hydro, Vaporize will be better than Melt for Diluc.

8 Prioritizing The ATK Stat

When having a DPS character, it’s easy to fall into the ATK trap where players just cram as much of the ATK percentage or flat stat to their characters through artifacts. This looks nice for bragging rights and all but there’s actually a thing in Genshin Impact as having too much ATK.

ATK has diminishing returns, especially when compared to Crit Rate or Crit Damage boost. For Diluc, lowering your ATK stat in favor of Crit stats has proven to yield more damage. So don’t worry about trading some Crit artifacts for ATK ones.

7 Ignoring Elemental Mastery

Speaking of artifact stats, one underrated yet monstrous stat in the game is Elemental Mastery. It might not look appealing but since Diluc relies on elemental reactions to maximize his damage output, having a lot of Elemental Mastery is beneficial to him.

In fact, the community math whizzes have even concluded that having a Sands-slot artifact with Elemental Mastery in combination with the Wolf’s Gravestone claymore is the best for Diluc right now. This is also why a C6 Diona that gives 200 Elemental Mastery is highly desirable in a Diluc composition.

6 Physical Normal Attacks

By now, it should be obvious how Diluc is meant to be played. He’s at his best when he’s dealing pyro damage and nothing else. That means doing normal attacks while the claymore isn’t lit (by his Elemental Burst) is not the best way to Diluc.

His DPS will plunge this way since his best artifacts are those that give him a pyro damage boost or Crit Rate. It would be better to swap out to a sub-DPS character if there’s no way for Diluc to deal pyro damage within a few seconds.

5 Not Giving Him Proper Support

Yes he is the richest dude in Monsdstadt and he has all the helping hands he needs but as a DPS, he needs all of them. So when you pick Diluc as the main damage dealer, the whole team has to make way to him. That means the other two or three characters are there to make him more powerful.

Bennett is the best choice for that sweet pyro resonance that grants 25 percent ATK and also doubles as a healer. Xinqiu is the top pick for a Vaporize composition though Melt isn’t too far behind with Diona, Chongyun, or Kaeya. As for the last character slot, an anemo character like Sucrose with a 4-piece Viridescent Venerer or maybe Zhongli with his Jade Shield is necessary if you want the highest damage available for Diluc.

4 Improper Dawn Positioning

Dawn is Diluc’s flashiest ability and it also shows the highest numbers. It’s great for doing some meme-worthy damage but oftentimes and due to the automatic targeting in Genshin Impact, it’s just meme-worthy and without the damage.

Positioning in Dawn is important because players have to make sure they actually hit the most number of enemies. It’s not enough to activate after attacking a lone enemy outside the battlefield and then turning away from him; this will snap the target locking back to the last enemy being attacked. Hence players have to go around their last target and make sure that all enemies behind them will be hit by Dawn. Otherwise, that’s 12 seconds wasted.

3 Not Activating Crimson Witch

In addition to being careless with Dawn, ignoring the blessings from the Crimson Witch artifact set is a big loss in damage. Activating its 4-piece bonus can add up to 36 percent pyro damage.

That means using Searing Onslaught three times in succession strictly before using Dawn. After activating Crimson Witch’s 4-piece bonus, players have about 10 seconds to apply all other buffs such as Bennett and Xinqiu’s Elemental Bursts.

2 Not Attacking Between Searing Onslaughts

Now here’s the tricky part. Some players might get too excited and giddy to maximize Crimson Witch’s bonus and do three Searing Onslaughts one after the other. It’s not a bad idea but weaving in some normal attacks between each Searing Onslaught does more damage.

Searing Onslaught’s windows are there for a reason, after all. This is all based on the community’s math. Some players even manage to squeeze in two or three normal attacks before each Searing Onslaught. Do be careful as missing a beat can reset Searing Onslaught’s cooldown.

1 Relying Too Much On Dawn

As for which of Diluc’s abilities cause the most damage in a considerable stretch of time, one might think that it’s Dawn but it’s actually Searing Onslaught. Dawn has a 12-second cooldown while Searing Onslaught only has six.

The total damage dealt by the two abilities is either equal or with Searing Onslaught having the upper hand against large enemies. That means it’s best to prioritize leveling Searing Onslaught instead of Dawn. That’s how Diluc pros do it, apparently.
