Monster Hunter Rise: How to Forge Magia Pitareen Insect Glaive

If players of Monster Hunter Rise just go from monster to monster, they may be missing out on some of the game’s more unique pieces of gear. Several items are crafted using unique materials and the result are items with a unique aesthetic different from any of the monsters in the game. The Magia Pitareen Insect Glaive that is reminiscent of something from Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura is one such weapon in Monster Hunter Rise.

The key item when it comes to crafting the Magia Pitareen is the blossom cricket. Like dreamshells and butterfly beetles, blossom crickets are obtained from using the Argosy to gather bug and mushroom related items. Players who may be using Rondine and the Argosy to farm something like honey may have already noticed these in their inventory. But for those who want to collect these crickets and haven’t, all they need to do is go to Rondine, choose a buddy, and ask them to trade for either a mushroom or a bug. Webs and honey count as bugs too for the purposes of this. Eventually the buddy sent of will bring back blossom crickets in addition to the requested item.

In order to forge the insect glaive, the following materials are required:

  • 1 Blossom Cricket
  • 2 Lightcrystals
  • 3 Bombadgy Igniters

Blossom crickets are obtained via the above method while lightcrystals can be obtained from some quests (like the village quest to hunt Great Wroggi), but are typically found in uncommon ore nodes in low rank areas. Bombadgy Igniters can be obtained from the bombadgies in the Shrine Ruins.

Once the glaive is forged, it has an attack of 70, 20 blast, a defense bonus of 5, a level 3 kinsect level, and yellow sharpness.

The Magia Pitareen can be upgraded twice. For the first upgrade, players will need:

  • 2 Blossom Crickets
  • 2 Mizutsune Fins
  • 3 units of Monster Fluid

The monster fluid is probably the one resource that players will most likely have to go out of their way to obtain as it’s obtained from carving bugs like Altaroth, Bnahabra, and Rachnoid. The first two can also be killed to the point they can’t be carved if they take too much damage. Though there is a village quest called Case of the Creepy Crawlies that requires players to hunt Altaroth and Bnahabra and can reward monster fluid upon completion. Monster fluid can also be obtained as drops, carves, or rewards from the large monster Volvidon. The source of Mizutsune fins is pretty clear, but players can increase their chances of getting them from Mizutsune hunts by breaking the fins on its back.

The first upgrade of the glaive has an attack of 100, 25 blast element, a defense bonus of 5, a level 4 kinsect level, and a tiny bit of green sharpness.

The second Magia Pitareen upgrade requires these resources:

  • 3 Blossom Crickets
  • 2 Novacrystals
  • 3 units of Monster Broth

Novacrystals are the high rank equivalent of lightcrystals, but the only quest currently known to drop novacrystals is the quest called Flooded Forest Fiasco, and the novacrystals only have a 5% drop rate from that so mining may be the best option still. Monster broth is the likewise, the high rank version of monster fluid and can be found from high rank versions of all the previous sources. Notably though, Rakna-Kadaki can also drop it.

The final upgrade of the glaive has has an attack of 150, 29 blast, a defense bonus of 5, a level 5 kinsect level, 3 level one decoration slots, and a tiny bit of blue sharpness.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC release is slated for 2022.
