No Man’s Sky Expeditions Update Adds Shared Journeys and More

A new massive expansion has arrived for No Man’s Sky that doesn’t just add content, but offers an entirely new way to play the game. Patch 3.3, Expeditions, is the latest example of Hello Games’ continued support of No Man’s Sky. And just as previous expansions have dramatically transformed or expanded No Man’s Sky, Expeditions has lofty goals. In effect, Expeditions offer seasonal experiences with targeted goals and unique rewards. Better yet, Expeditions is available now as an entirely free No Man’s Sky update.

The biggest No Man’s Sky feature addition of the Expeditions update is Expeditions itself. An Expedition is an entirely new season-based mode. Starting an Expedition starts the player on the same planet as every other player starting an Expedition. Each player will also have what’s being called a “Shared Journey,” which is a unique set of milestones and phases that keep players progressing together through the universe, while also earning exclusive seasonal rewards in the process.

Getting into more detail about what milestones are, Hello Games describes them as challenges that can be completed in any order. Examples given in the first phase of milestones include leaving the first planet and establishing a base. Milestones are grouped into phases that change only once completed. Each completed phase unlocks one of the season’s unique rewards, with an extra bonus reward for completing all phases.

The addition of Expeditions, as massive as the new feature is, isn’t the only addition coming with the new update. The next biggest change is a complete overhaul of the Space Station mission system. Missions will now have greater depth so that players feel more invested in what they offer. They’ll also offer bigger rewards, particularly for more challenging missions.

Other additions and changes to the game include an extension to the Analysis Visor called the Target Sweep. Activating the visor’s Target Sweep mode will open up new exploration opportunities, allowing players to search for and find specific mission targets and destinations. Next, Weekend Missions have been reactivated by Hello Games. These are procedurally generated missions meant to be completed by the entire community that reward Quicksilver.

Lastly, there are big bug fixes, balance changes, performance improvements, and quality of life enhancements. No Man’s Sky has a new UI, for example, and a better early game for new players. Suffice to say, Hello Games wants Expeditions to be an opportunity for new No Man’s Sky players to jump in and start having fun without any trouble.

No Man’s Sky is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
