Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2 Reloaded Brings Us Closer to the Nuke Event

Call of Duty: Warzone players have been waiting for major developments regarding the nuke event for some time now. While rumors have been prevalent, detailing everything from how the event will play out to the fallout from the bomb being dropped, official information has been less common. However, the launch of Season 2 Reloaded seems to have changed this.

Call of Duty: Warzone developer Raven Software is now starting to tease the nuke event in-game, ensuring that rumors regarding its start date may be accurate. Alongside the nods to the event’s legitimacy, a massive leaked has seemingly confirmed that a new map is on the way — something that has been a key talking point for the nuke event. As such, Season 2 Reloaded is bringing fans even closer to what should be the biggest moment in Call of Duty: Warzone history.

For those out of the loop on the rumors, it has been said that Call of Duty: Warzone’s Zombie outbreak and the nuke event are one in the same. A prelude to the deadly bomb being dropped on Verdansk, the storyline reason for the country being destroyed will be the Zombies overtaking the area completely. As such, once the undead have covered a large enough portion of the map, players will see the event begin. With the Zombies spreading like wildfire in recent weeks, this theory seems legitimate.

When Zombies first came to Call of Duty: Warzone, they did so on the Vodianoy ship. Soon after, they spread to the prison area, with the next point of interest being the Hospital. Zombies went to Verdansk’s bank next, ensuring that Plunder players looking for some easy money saw a bit more opposition. While these walking corpses still have a long way to go before they fully cover Verdansk, Zombie-related leaks have indicated that they will soon be spreading to more locations. These areas include the Superstore, TV Station, Dam, and Stadium — all of which are key points of interest that have potential for easy Zombies spawns.

In the roadmap for Season 2 Reloaded, Activision teased that the Zombies would indeed be spreading even further. Not only does this mean that players may soon see locations like Stadium flooded with the undead, but it means that the map is quickly filling up with contaminated areas. With each Zombies addition, players are inching closer and closer to the nuke being used. By the end of Season 2, the map should be full of the AI enemies, allowing Activision and Raven Software to activate the thrilling final phase of the event.

Right before the midseason update for Season 2 arrived, players stumbled upon the first official acknowledgment of the event. A special map easter egg could be found when entering an area near one of Verdansk’s bunkers, with the startling moment signifying that the leaks were true. If players aim at a map of Verdansk in the TV Station shack, it will begin to explode, with 30-seconds worth of mini napalm bursts appearing in front of the player. Once this is done playing, the room is flooded with poison gas, likely meant to resemble the radiation seen after a nuke is dropped.

If this was not enough, Season 2 Reloaded added a much more obvious teaser to the game. If players load up Call of Duty: Warzone, they will now see missiles flying overhead in all of their matches. Visible from several areas and borderline unmissable, the rockets seem to hint at a fight going on around Verdansk. A possible nod to the Russian military trying to wipe out the Zombies, these missiles appearing implies that the nuke event is coming sooner rather than later.

Finally, a huge leak has revealed an unfinished Call of Duty: Warzone commercial that showcases parts of a 1980s Verdansk map. With Verdansk supposedly being nuked in just a few weeks’ time, returning back to the 80s could be a fun way to keep the map in the rotation. Seeing the classic map being built up as opposed to Verdansk being removed completely is a solid surprise, and the 1980s version of the map doubling as a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War tie-in is a nice bonus. With leaks showing a new Verdansk and in-game teasers that hint at the current version being destroyed, Season 2 Reloaded has eliminated any doubts that the event will happen.

Finally, the very concept of Season 2 Reloaded brings players closer to the nuke event than ever. After all, numerous leaks have claimed that the event will supposedly be starting as soon as Season 3 begins. With Season 2 Reloaded marking the midway point of the current Season, players have a clear marker of just how much time is left until the nuke will appear. With each passing day in Season 2, the event is only coming closer, as players can literally watch the countdown to the event via the Season timer.

Season 3 will begin on April 22, lining up perfectly with the most recent date suggested for the big moment. This means that any change made during Season 2 Reloaded will likely be aimed at hyping up this event, with more groundwork like the Zombies additions and missile teasers possible. With a special game mode called Plague rumored to be how the nuke event plays out in-game, players may see the mode patched into the game soon — ensuring that dataminers can leak even more features of the event. More easter egg teasers like the exploding map seen near the TV Station also seem like a possibility, with Raven Software using Season 2 Reloaded to give fans some more clues as to how things will go down.

While the road has been so long that some players are tired of waiting for the nuke event, it does seem like it is finally happening. Plenty is already happening during Call of Duty: Warzone’s Season 2 Reloaded update, and with weeks left to go, even more could transpire. With all signs pointing to the nuclear explosion happening on April 22, players have only three weeks left before they get their answers on the game’s future. Regardless of whether fans react positively or negatively to the changes that follow the nuke, the event itself is certainly starting to seem like it will be worthy of all the hype.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
