Days Gone is trending on Twitter, and fans are gathering together to appreciate it. Days Gone was announced as one of the free PS Plus games for the month of April, and that has sparked a conversation about Bend Studio’s game of surviving “Freakers” and humans alike.
Days Gone has never been considered to be among the absolute best PS4 games, unlike titles like God of War, The Last Of Us Remastered, or Horizon Zero Dawn. But looking back on it now, many fans are thinking happy thoughts about it.
Perhaps time heals all wounds, as there was once a consensus among the gaming community that Days Gone was a glitch-filled experience that was fun but not fully fleshed out. The game has a 71 on Metacritic and a user score of 8.3. However, looking back on the game now, the community seems to remember their time with Days Gone very fondly, and they are thrilled that players will be able to jump into the action-adventure survival horror video game for free with PS Plus.
As per usual with the internet, one of the first reactions to any news is to “meme” it. Days Gone is used to being made fun of thanks to the bugs that bogged the game down at launch, but receiving a reward for being put on PS Plus must feel pretty good for the game, Bend Studio, and PlayStation (even if it is a fake internet award).
Many do believe that Days Gone is truly an underrated gem of a game, and now that PS Plus users will be able to enjoy it, more players than ever will find out how good it is. Thanks to the story, the graphics, soundtrack, and jaw-dropping encounters with the infected Freakers, 2021 seems like a good time to revisit Days Gone.
The breathtaking cinematography of Days Gone almost does not feel like it deserves to be in the PS4 era. It is true that developers often master a platform towards the tail end of its lifecycle, but Bend Studio was able to pull an extra something out of the PS4 that perhaps others could not, and that is something that fans have been discussing today.
In the end, fans are eating up the opportunity to play Days Gone once again. On top of revisiting the game–perhaps on a PS5 via backward compatibility–many are excited that new players will be able to enjoy the survival action-adventure game, as well.
Days Gone is available now for PlayStation 4 and PS5 via backward compatibility, with a PC version slated to release in Spring 2021.
