Epic Games Store’s Free Titles Switch, Next Week’s Game Revealed

With the end of the week rolling around, the Epic Games Store has once again switched around its free offerings, with Creature in the Well officially removed from the popular promotion. It makes way for a new claimable title now up for grabs for PC players, with Epic Games also giving the digital storefront’s fans a look at what free game will debut next week.

Tales of the Neon Sea is available free of charge on the marketplace from today until April 8, at which time it will be replaced by 3 out of 10: Season 2, which will stick around until April 15. Both games join the long list of Epic Games Store freebies handed out since the store’s grand opening, which includes the likes of Alien Isolation, Grand Theft Auto 5, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and Rage 2.

Tales of the Neon Sea is a cyberpunk pixel art adventure game, seeing players assume the role of a detective named Rex. Throughout the game, players are tasked with investigating crimes, speaking with NPCs, and uncovering sinister mysteries. Along the way, they’ll have to solve a series of puzzles and navigate through animated 2D environments, making for a stylish and investing sci-fi crime caper. It originally launched back in 2019 to mixed reviews, bagging a score of 62 on Metacritic.

As for next week’s offering, 3 out of 10: Season 2 is the follow-up to 3 out of 10: Season 1, which was comprised of 5 episodes and is available for free on the Epic Games Store. The basic concept is a mix between an animated sitcom and a video game, following the exploits of a team of game developers attempting to release a title that can score more than a 3 out of 10. The novel idea was celebrated during its initial season, with its PC release scoring an 85 on Metacritic. It’ll be interesting to see whether that acclaim can be replicated as the game welcomes its upcoming second season.

The Epic Games Store won’t be the only big name to offer free games this month, with PlayStation and Xbox also revealing their subscription services’ lineups. Microsoft will be giving away four titles during this April’s Games with Gold promotion, with Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, Truck Racing Championship, Dark Void, and Hard Corps: Uprising all being made available for no additional cost.

Meanwhile, Sony is offering a multitude of significant titles over the next four weeks, with Oddworld: Soulstorm making its debut via PlayStation Plus. It will be joined by Day’s Gone and Zombie Army 4: Dead War, while the company’s Play At Home Initiative has also made Abzu, The Witness, Enter the Gungeon, Subnautica, Moss, Astrobot Rescue Mission, Rez Infinite, Thumper, and Paper Beast free to claim. Horizon: Zero Dawn will join that lineup on April 19.
