Life is Strange: True Colors was announced earlier this year. While making some big changes for the franchise, such as dropping its typical episodic format, the official ESRB rating for the game suggests that Life is Strange: True Colors may also bring the series to the Nintendo Switch.
Life is Strange is an anthology drama series that each follows a young adult or teenager with supernatural abilities. Life is Strange: True Colors‘ announcement was met with a lot of excitement, despite the news that previous series developer Dontnod Entertainment would not be involved with the game. The series is known for delving into heavy themes like loss and mental health, and has received a lot of recognition for its exploration of those topics. This makes the ESRB’s recent mature rating for Life is Strange: True Colors not surprising, but the hint at a possible Switch release is.
The official ESRB rating lists the game as Mature for blood, drug reference, strong language, suggestive themes, use of alcohol, and violence. The rating is pretty standard fare for the Life is Strange series, but as Twitter user Wario64 points out, the list of platforms for the game includes the Nintendo Switch.
It is possible the inclusion of the Switch as a platform was an accident, as it has been removed from the game’s page as of writing. However, multiple titles have had ports or releases leaked early through ESRB ratings. The release of Life is Strange: True Colors on Nintendo Switch would also make a lot of sense. The games are not very demanding on systems, and the break from episodic releases would do well with the Switch’s handheld mode so that players could play the entire game on the go. It also would make sense given Square Enix’s relationship with Nintendo, as the company just released its JRPG Bravely Default II exclusively on the Switch.
Fans would surely be excited if the news turned out to be true, especially following the series’ recently announced remaster of the first two games coming to Switch. The series has many fans on the system, so hopefully an announcement of a Switch port for the game is not too far away. Not much is known at this point about Life is Strange: True Colors, but it does seem like an ambitious next step for the series, so many hope it is able to live up to the hype no matter what platform it appears on.
Life is Strange: True Colors releases September 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
